WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Students need to get their weekly reflections signed, complete bingo and the math problem. Please return everything together in the homework folder by Friday!
- Language Arts -Unit 5-Advancements in Technology! Click here for the parent letter. The essential question we are exploring is, What is the value of innovation? We will be looking at how different technologies have been innovated. We will be working on identifying key details and determining the main idea, using text features to aid comprehension and comparing texts on similar topics.
- Writing -Students will be working on an opinion and informational text directly related to the readings we do in class. Also, students will be working on researching an innovator and writing a speech about that innovator for our Living Innovator Museum coming up on February 14th.
- Spelling- Words with the vowel-r syllable pattern and words with inflectional endings -ed and -ing.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials and context clues to define domain-specific vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in their writing. Some of the vocabulary words we will focus on in the upcoming weeks are: device, innovative, amplified, obtain, soared and commonplace.
- Math -We will be finishing up UNIT 3: Problem Solving with Multiplication and Division. Then we will be moving into Unit 4-FRACTIONS! Click here for the Unit 4 Parent Letter with lots of great resources. Continue to practice your multiplication facts at home!!! We will also continue working on solving multi-step word problems. Students will solve each problem by identifying the given information in the problem, understanding what they are solving for and correctly solving it using the appropriate operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division).
- Innovation: We will continue with Innovation Block 2. Students will be working on Engineering in the classroom. Additionally, students will use this time to work on their research for their innovator project!
- 7 Habits - Habit of the month-Habit 3: Put First Things First!
