Reflections Program
There are many ways to incorporate the arts on campus, but one BIG WAY is with Reflections – a program of The National PTA that has excelled in Texas. By providing Reflections on our campus, we are setting our PTA, students, and families up for a real win-win! We hope more students take part in Reflections this year, and we can’t wait to see how Smith students interpret the theme, “Look Within”. All Smith students will be recognized for participating. The state winner will receive $100 from The National PTA among other recognition. If you have any questions, please reach out to the Smith PTA Arts In Education Chair Nicole Moreno @ nicolemoreno77@icloud.com Let’s shoot for every Smith child to submit an entry! The deadline to submit entries is Oct 31st. To help you get started this year, below is information on the categories, rules and the application for entering. Entries can be turned into the Reflections Entry Box located in the front office starting Oct 1st.
Year after year, research confirms the importance of the arts in our children’s lives. The arts provide a platform for students to exercise social skills and they function as an emotional outlet. The arts also impact academic performance by building creative problem-solving skills and critical thinking. Through Reflections, we are providing an opportunity for students to express themselves and strengthen their minds for success now and in the future.
Reflections engages the whole family by supporting and celebrating the student artist!
CogAT Testing
5th graders will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test on the mornings of October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. This is a standardized test that measures a student’s ability to think and solve verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal problems. Please do not schedule any out of school appointments for these days. Results from the testing will be reported to our campus and parents later this semester. You can help your child by making sure they get plenty of sleep the night before testing and that they eat a good breakfast in the morning.
Smith Stampede Kick-off
This is our annual fundraiser and we hope you can support it. 100 % of the funds raised go to our kids, classrooms and school. A packet will come home tomorrow with your child that has all the info you need to help us make the Stampede a success.
