Burbank Library News
January 2018
New Professional Resource Books
The library has a small but growing collection of books specifically for teachers labeled "Professional Resources." They are on a separate shelf in the library near the atlas stand. You can browse the collection online as well. In addition, there are lots of titles in the library that also support your curriculum. I've put together some lists for classes like art and culinary. You can create your own resource list of library books and other online resources using our library catalog. See Mrs. De Waelsche for more information.
We also have two new magazines specific to education as well: Phi Delta Kappan and Educational Leadership.
SAISD Foundation Innovation Grant
There's only two more chances to attend the innovative grant workshops that are required for you to be able to apply for a foundation grant up to $5000. The next workshop will be held on Thursday, January 18 and dinner will be served. You must RSVP to Jennifer Twiss in order to attend. The workshop might fill up so make sure you put in your request ASAP. For more information visit the SAISD Foundation Website. Don't wait until the last minute to apply. Several signatures including one from Mr. Elizondo are required.
Chromebook & Laptop Checkouts
Remember that in order to use the Chromebook and Laptop carts, teachers must first view a powerpoint and then complete the quiz at the end of the presentation. You must login to your SAISD Google account in order to take the quiz.
UIL Speech & Debate
If you know of any students that might be interested in participating in UIL Speech & Debate events, please have them sign up in the library. Students can compete in Informative or Persuasive speaking, Prose or Poetry, or LD Debate.
SAPL Writing Contest Extended
Due to the MLK holiday and school closures due to weather, the San Antonio Public Library fiction writing contest has been extended to Monday, January 22 at 11:59 p.m.
