Thoughts from Dr. Pacatte
Return to School Planning Continues
Earlier in the week, I met with a group of parents, teachers, and administrators to discuss the possibility of creating a return to school option for those families indicating an interest in having their children complete some schooling in the actual school buildings. Our preliminary survey results show approximately 45% of our families (across all grade levels) are interested in sending their children to school. Some grade levels have a higher percentage of interest than others. As a result, we will continue to work on what that option could look like.
We do this knowing that whatever plan we select and develop will not make everyone happy and may not be exactly what each family needs or wants. We also recognize that if we do develop a plan we feel confident will work, some families that expressed interest may change their minds and some who didn’t may decide they are interested. We also recognize that as more businesses and corporations are beginning to bring employees back, the interest in sending kids to school may increase. We know we will have to be more flexible with entry for students with changing circumstances. Please know that whatever plan is selected will still include the need for virtual learning and the use of technology. It is also unlikely that it will bring students into school for the full day as we were on March 12, 2020.
At this time, we are going through all of the questions and concerns posed by the committee and determining if there are reasonable solutions or answers. There is no plan to be shared today and no date of return determined. This is simply an update to assure families that are waiting for this possibility, that we are working on it.
Virtual Band Concert
Our band program continues to work during this unusual school year and our first concert of the year will be posted on September 29 @ 7:00 pm. This is a nice opportunity for families to sit down and watch something positive, together, and support our students at the same time. In a time when our athletes are unable to compete and our actors and musicians unable to perform to a live audience, this is the next best thing. Watch for a link to be sent out on Tuesday and join us in celebrating our musicians.
