Terry Fox Fundraiser Update
Learning Forward Days
Hanover School Division is a student-centred school division with highly skilled, caring educators who plan for student learning based on students’ current level of academic achievement as well as developing an understanding of your child’s social-emotional well-being. On June 4th and June 7th, Grades 1 to 8 students will participate in HSD’s Learning Forward Days. These days will be scheduled the same as September’s Strong Connection Days. Half the class will attend June 4th, and the other half will attend June 7th. The purpose of these Learning Forward Days will be to collect assessment information about each child to assist next year's teachers in understanding each child’s academic progress and social-emotional well-being. This is particularly important after a year of multiple adjustments in learning environments. Each family will receive more detailed information from their child’s school with a specific date for your child to attend and the nature of the assessments your child will complete.
The goal for using the tool and assessment:
● These will assist in providing basic, targeted data related to specific foundational outcomes from the MB Math Curriculum
● The data will benefit the receiving teacher because it helps to inform planning and supports responsive instruction. This will benefit learning for students when they arrive next fall in their new classes.
● Over time, the data will also benefit teachers as they analyze and reflect on the retention of concepts for their grade level and consider how they might bolster learning for the upcoming year.
● A focus on school-based data collection and learning from that data
Report Cards and Class Placement
As we have done over the past number of years, we had originally planned to share your child’s next years classroom teacher in the June report card for those students entering school this coming September. Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty of class sizes and physical distancing in the classroom, we have been directed by the school division to refrain from sharing this information. Hanover School Division will provide further communication soon.
Our hope is to provide this information to you as soon as possible as we recognize the benefits of your children having this information. Some exceptions are being made. These include some students with special needs at the discretion of our administrative team. This will also include students entering Kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year as parents requiring child care on the alternate days need advanced notice of their child’s placement.
Reports cards will be available for parent viewing on June 30th. Thank you for your understanding and patience in this matter.
