Mrs. Zaker's Class News
September 15th, 2023
What have we been learning?
Students have been busy the first 22 days of school. They have been making new friends and learning the classroom rules and expectations. Take a look at what has been going on in our classroom.
- SEL- Students have been learning about paying attention and how to deal with distractions. They have also been learning why rules are important and how to use their words (not their hands) when they are interacting with peers.
- ELA- Students have been learning about story elements. They are learning about characters, character traits, settings, making predictions, and visualization.
- Math- Students have been working on number sense, writing numbers, teen numbers, counting to 120, ordinal numbers, and graphing.
- Writing- Students have been working very hard at writing letters and numbers using the correct form, writing neatly, and not using capital letters to write all of their words. Writing is a very important skill that we practice all year long in first grade. Please encourage your child to take their time and write neatly. They will need to redo their work if they are scribbling through their work and not putting in their best effort.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
* Please send a healthy snack to school each day with your child. Please remenber that our classroom is a peanut free zone so students may not eat any snacks in the classroom that contain peanuts. They may have peanut items for lunch when they are in the lunchroom.
* Please remind your child that they must keep their hands to themselves. Students need to use their words when talking with others. Play fighting, wrestling, etc. is not allowed at school and will get them into trouble.
* Your child should be bringing their take home folder back and forth to school each day. Please check and empty their take home folder each night.
* Homework is sent home on Mondays and it is due back on Fridays. Homework helps reinforce skills that we are learning in class. It will never be a new concept or material that students shouldn't know how to do. It should not take them long to complete anything that is sent home.
* Newletters are sent through Parentsquare and all news letters can be found in our Google Classroom.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached by Parentsquare, email wzaker@troy30c.org, or phone.
Have a great day!
