Administrative Updates
January 13, 2023
Tigers Community,
Let’s celebrate and welcome in the new year! I hope everyone had a restful holiday break with family and friends! We’re looking forward to a great second half of the school year. Time really flies during the school year. This week, students’ schedules changed due to their electives and this is the week we reviewed building behavioral expectations (ROARS) with all students. Our primary objective at Thompson is to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment for all students; followed by promoting high learning expectations for learners. Your support in both areas is appreciated. In addition to the review of ROARS (Respectful to all, Offer to help Others, Actively participate, Responsible for Actions, and Strive for excellence each day), the administration will communicate Student Drop off/Pick up updated procedures next week after we meet with School Safety and Security Coordinator. Safety is paramount with the anticipated snowfall in the coming week. If necessary, our configuration will be adjusted to manage more traffic.
This afternoon, we will hold our first school-wide assembly in the gymnasium with several friendly competitions. GO STAFF! We intend on beating our Girls Volleyball team (without injury to any staff)! It’s a PINK-OUT theme in support of breast cancer awareness. Pictures will be uploaded next week!
Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! No school on Monday!
Respectfully,
Mr. Marcus L. Lewis, Ed.S., Principal
Mrs. Karen O’Connor, Asst. Principal
Dr. LaTonya Davis, Asst. Principal

Elective Selection for 2023-2024
For Current 6th & 7th Grade Students:
It's time to choose your electives for next school year! On Tues, Jan 10 and Wed, Jan 11 the Thompson counselors went to 6th and 7th grade Social Studies classes to present the enclosed information about elective selection. Please review the slideshow here for important information, along with slides the elective teachers made describing their classes. Important details include:
* The course selection window is open from January 9 - January 20 on Tyler.
* Course selection must be done from the full Tyler website (like on your Chromebook) and will not show up on the Tyler app.
* If you do not complete elective selection in Tyler, electives will be chosen for you, so make sure you get it done!!
* For current 7th graders - make sure you do not choose the exact same class again. Band and Choir are technically different each year so that does not apply. But, if for example you already took 3D Art this year, you cannot sign up for 3D Art again.
* Here is a reference document that describes each elective offered.
* Instructions on how to complete the elective selection in Tyler.
Please contact your Thompson counselor with any questions.

Care Closet
WHAT is the Care Closet?
The care closet provides relief to students and their families who are experiencing hardships; food insecurity, lack of weather appropriate clothing, basic hygiene supplies, school supplies, etc.
WHO gets to use it?
This is a FREE resource provided to students with items you may not be able to afford. While this is offered to all students, the intent is to share these items with students and families that truly can not purchase them on their own.
Will everyone know that I am using the Care Closet?
NO! The use of the Care Closet is confidential!
HOW does it work?
Simply scan the QR code on this brochure! You will then fill out a Google Form using your student ID#. Your items will be available for pick up in the main office by the following day!
No Phone? No problem! Contact your counselor or the main office for a form or click here to fill out an online form!
Conflict Resolution
Are you having problems with another student
that you would like resolved?
Or do you know of a friend who has ongoing problems with a specific student?
Almost all students who have a confrontation say that there has been a history between the two that has been going on for a while. Instead of letting those feelings continue to build up, consider trusting Mr. Buono to assist in resolving the ¨beef.¨
Fill out the 5 second form by scanning the QR code. Mr. Buono will then set up a time to talk to you and decide if we can all sit down for a peer mediation session to calm things down.
*If you have any questions/comments/concerns, you can also email Mr. Buono: NBuono@sd308.org
