Teacher Newsletter

State testing is sneaking up on us very quickly. Before we know it, it will be March. Again, the testing window will be open from March 10th to May 2nd. A few updates for state testing:

1) The Examiners Manual should be coming out within the next week.

2) KITE is undergoing an update to improve and enhance the Educator Portal.

3) All accommodations should be added into KITE for the PNP (Personal Needs Preferences). If you have issues, please let me know and I will get them fixed.

It is my plan to continue with skill lessons throughout the month of March, April and May. Due to state testing I might not get into your classroom more than once a month. However, it is my goal to continue on and keep up with the skill lessons. If you have any suggestion on what you think the students may need help with let me know! I'd love to include it into one of my lesson.

Please continue to watch for students who have exceptional manners. I believe it is a good way to reinforce daily manners within the school day. This time, a student can earn more than one star. Please let me know, leave me a note or email about needing to take student's pictures.

As you have noticed, right now, I am spotlighting K-State. It is my plan to spotlight many colleges from around the state of Kansas. Once again, if a student fills out a fact finding sheet and returns it to me by the due date, they qualify for a drawing where I will be giving away prizes. The college spotlight is a way for the student to research a college on their own time to get them thinking about what is out there for them after they are done with high school. On the fact finding sheet I not only ask about different majors the school offers, I also ask about tuition and room and board prices. I plan to spotlight the following colleges: Pitt State, Wichita State, KU, Emporia State, Cowley County Community College, Allen County Community College, Washburn University, Wichita Area Technical College, Butler County Community College, and Ft. Hayes State University.

The annual 8th grade college exploration day is in the works. I am working with Ft. Scott Community College, Allen County Community College, Neosho County Community College and Labette Community College for this event. The tentative dates are April 29th and May 8th. Again these are just in the planning stage. There is a possibly that the dates could possibly change.

As you might have noticed, we have had some very eager young ladies who have develop a new club. The Anti-Bullying Club. I am the new sponsor for this club. The girls have planned dates to hold meetings for the anti-bullying club. The meetings will be held during ELP time in the Middle School Media Center. Anyone is welcome to join. Here are the dates:

February 19th

March 5th

April 16th

May 7th

One goal of mine, to help the Anti-Bullying Club, is that we help the school to be able to define what is bullying and what is not. Below you will find a video clip that I thought did a good job of showing this.

If you have any other ideas please let me know. I am open for suggestions.

Bullying or Not?
