Vision and Action Forum Update
from the BSS School Council
Dear BSS Parents,
First and foremost, thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our school-wide Vision and Action Forum. We had an outstanding attendance and we are so appreciative of those who took time out of their schedules to attend.
During the Forum session we received some great insights as to how we can assist Bridge Street School in becoming an even stronger school. We also fully recognize that this is just the beginning of a significant process and that there is a lot of work we must do to make these initiatives become a reality.
This is where we need you! We would love any member of the BSS community to join a subcommittee that will work to help move these initiatives forward. This includes:
Improving Communication: What can Bridge Street School do to improve the content and delivery of communication among and between parents/guardians and the school teachers and administration?
Sample task items include: Clarify the process for communicating to everyone, accessibility of communication for all, improving communication about school curriculum, improve communication between teachers/administrators/parents and guardians, helping to improve communications on school websites.
Improving the Culture: What could be an “Every Day Action” that if done every day by all members of the Bridge Street Community (children, parents, guardians, teachers and administrators) would ultimately lead to a greater sense of pride and a more positive and supportive feeling about being a member of the community?
Sample task items include: Development of an intentional norm within the school that would include greeting others with names and sharing positive peer attributes, developing of parent/guardian/teacher/student lunch program, shared vocabulary of S.E.L curriculum.
Embracing, Enhancing and Improving the Values of Diversity: What can Bridge Street School do to expand the definition of diversity and increase the acceptance and support of children from different backgrounds who may have diverse educational, physical and emotional needs.
Sample task items include: Curating the library with an eye towards diversity, developing a mentor program for new families, developing a shared framework/understanding of diversity, creating a paradigm shift to change the way we think and speak about diversity.
We need at least 6 members on each subcommittee and expect that each subcommittee will spend a minimum of 1-2 hours per month on the project. If you would like to sign up to participate in a subcommittee click here. We’re hoping to get all sign-ups completed by December 31, 2018 so that we can really start working on the solutions you presented in the Forum at the start of the year. If you have any questions about the process, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of your School Council Parent Representatives who will act as liaisons for each of the subcommittees and will bringing the results back to the School Council to incorporate into the School Improvement Plan for implementation.
