Introduction
George Washington was ,and still is, an American hero. George lead his troops into battle in the American Revolution. Not long after the war George was unanimously elected as president. Even though he did not want to take office, he did it anyway. He took many strides to make our country what it is today, but sadly he died in 1799.
Thinking of the monument
The Washington Monument was first thought of in 1783. The person who thought of it was none other than Thomas Jefferson. He thought it would be pretty cool to build a statue of the best president ever.
Creation
The Washington Monument took many years to build. One time it almost got abandoned! But finally after all the blood, sweat, and tears it took to make it. It was built in 1885 where today it stands at a whopping 555 feet!
