It’s Time to Check Your Child’s Progress!
Kindergarten Parents:
Teachers have completed midterm progress reports that will be sent home with students. These reports indicate performance in work habits, social skills, and fine motor skills. Using the information reported and determining if your child is on track, try setting some goals for the next month of school.
First and Second Grade Parents:
Check your child’s mid-term progress by logging into RDS Parent Access and go to the Buzz gradebook. Watch the 4 minute 18 second video for directions on Midterm Progress Check in RDS Parent Access and Buzz. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8AgiT5iz_VpUWpHdDk2WGVyOHc/view?usp=sharing
After viewing their progress, determine which goals you'd like to set together for the next month of school.
If you have concerns about your child's performance, do not wait until Parent Teacher Conferences in the end of October. Contact your child's teacher now and work together to create a plan to support your student. Partnerships=Progress!

GoGuardian Internet and Application Filter
To help protect students when using their school-owned Chromebooks at school and at home, Crown Point Schools will begin using software designed specifically to help ensure students' safety by providing comprehensive filtering and analytics of student Chromebook usage. The software is called GoGuardian.
Use of GoGuardian in elementary classrooms will develop throughout the school year as teachers receive training and as students and parents learn about the application and its uses. In order for this to occur, the software is deployed to elementary school-owned Chromebooks.
The GoGuardian frequently asked questions describes features of the software.
If you have questions or comments, please email GoGuardian@cps.k12.in.us.

Home-School Connections
Parents,
September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Understanding the issues regarding suicide and mental health is a vital way to take part in suicide prevention, help others in crisis, and change the dialogue around suicide. It is very important for all to know that it is a myth that talking about suicide will “give people ideas.” Talking about suicide actually does the opposite; it allows for individuals to feel heard and valued. It is very important that everyone knows and can recognize the warning signs of suicide. Here are some below:
· Talking about wanting to die or to kill themselves
· Looking for a way to kill themselves, like searching online or buying a gun
· Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live
· Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain
· Talking about being a burden to others
· Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs
· Acting anxious or agitated; behaving recklessly
· Sleeping too little or too much
· Withdrawing or isolating themselves
· Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge
· Extreme mood swings
Some warning signs may help you determine if a loved one is at risk for suicide, especially if the behavior is new, has increased, or seems related to a painful event, loss, or change. If you or someone you know exhibits any of these, seek help by calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. And remember, it is very important to take all threats seriously.

School Attendance
Regular school attendance is critical to a child's success. We recognize that being at school on time, all day, every day is the responsibility of the entire family. We are excited to announce that we will be honoring one FAMILY each week that demonstrates perfect attendance. Each full week, on Friday afternoon, we will draw a family name to win a Family Fun Night! Included in this fun pack will be a gift card for dinner from Pizza Hut and a movie from Redbox!
This Week's Winner is the Peltier Family! Congratulations, Aubrey!

Your child's birthday will be announced on the morning announcements and he/she is invited to the office for a small birthday treat.
If you choose, non-food items may be substituted your child may commemorate their special day by bringing a small treat for their classmates (pencil, bookmark, sticker, etc.) or dedicating a book to the classroom (and placing a special birthday bookplate inside).

Safety & Security
- Make sure the school has updated Emergency Contacts within RDS. Do we have the best numbers to reach you? There should always be additional individuals who don't live with you that we can contact in the event of an emergency.
- Designate an emergency "go-to" place for your child. For example, who is the neighbor they'd go to in the event someone weren't home? Who is the back up for that person?
- Help your child learn your phone number and to use a telephone. Students should memorize your #1 contact phone number. Students should also know how to dial and connect with someone in an emergency, including the ability to dial 911.
Having a proactive plan will ensure everyone feels safe and calm in an unforeseen situation!
