Principal Message
This week while listening to one of my favorite education podcasts, the author had titled the year 2020 and it resonated with me. He titled 2020 as the "Year of the Learner" and I can't help but recognize the appropriateness of it. He titled 2020 as the "Year of the Learner" because everyone, students, teachers, principals, parents, EVERYONE, is learning new ways this year. With all of the changes, new guidelines, new recommendations, and new ways of communicating challenging students, teachers, and parents we are all learning something new and with learning new things, there are always growing pains. I thought this was an excellent reminder to give grace and understanding this year as we are all learning something new!
I want to say thank you to parents as we are now journeying through the school year in the midst of the pandemic. Please continue to let us know when your child(ren) are not feeling well as this helps us make the appropriate decisions regarding the health and safety of not only your child(re) but also the school community as a whole. However, please be diligent in doing temperature and symptoms checks each morning. These checks are two of the best proactive measures to ensure the continued health and safety of St. Mary School.
Also, it was great welcoming our preschool students this week! It is wonderful to see all of the excited and happy faces each morning. I look forward to being a guest reader and spending time with our preschool classes!
Keep up the great work with hand washing, wearing our face coverings, and social distancing. Keep working hard to keep St. Mary School safe and healthy! Hope everyone enjoys a restful weekend.
Thank you,
George Mitchell

Preschool Update
AM Preschool start time will be 8:15 instead of 8:30. This is an effort to ensure we have ample time between preschool groups to sanitize the classroom.
AM Schedule - 8:15-11:15
PM Schedule - 12:30-3:30
Face Coverings - Preschool students will be required to have a face covering (mask) at school. However, they are not mandated or required to wear them throughout the day. Our preschool staff will work with our students to understand the purpose and procedure of wearing face coverings and will have the discretion to allow preschool students to not wear face coverings throughout the day. It will be highly encouraged that they wear them while moving through common areas of the school, but with the understanding of student-by-student needs with the face coverings for our preschool students. If there are any questions regarding face coverings please reach out to Mr. Mitchell at gmitchell@stmaryvermilion.org.
