Principal Newsletter

From the Desk of Mrs. Riley

September 6, 2018

Dear Parents,

Summer is certainly hanging on outside but inside our school has already jumped headfirst into a new academic year! Our preschool students joined us this week and it finally feels like our entire family has returned home!

This week in school our 3rd through 8th grade students began utilizing a new Science tool to meet our curriculum guidelines. Dimensions is a high impact learning experience where students learn through exploration, analysis, and application. The lessons are activity driven and are aimed at equipping our students in the STEM and engineering fields. On Monday, our co-curricular classes begin. We are excited to launch a new foreign language program. All students in Pre-K 3 through Grade 8 will have weekly Spanish classes. Please join me in welcoming our new Spanish teacher, Señora Debora Kellander. We are thrilled to have Señora Kellander as a part of our team!

Our Lady of Good Counsel School is truly excited to announce that we will be featured on Fox 29's Kelly's Classroom!! Bob Kelly will be here with a TV crew filming live on Tuesday, October 2, as we unveil our new Digital Learning Commons and Kindergarten classroom. Please be sure to watch Fox 29 live on Tuesday, 10/2 from 9 AM to 10 AM! Parents will have an opportunity at Back to School Night to view these 2 new features.

Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!

Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.

God’s Peace,

Mrs. Barbara Riley

OLGC Band 2018-2019

We perform two concerts throughout the year, as well as various other events such as at our monthly Community Homerooms. We hope to create a more substantial ensemble in the upcoming years in order to eventually provide an OLGC concert and pep band.

Lessons are offered for students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade for percussion and strings with Mr. Mike Dettra. Please help us to keep music in the schools alive and continue to make joyous sounds to the Lord!

For more information and/or questions, please see the attached flyer or visit the Band Section of our school website at
