First Grade Explorers

First Grade has been very busy the past week! We loved learning and playing games to learn all about Theodore Roosevelt, and all of his accomplishments. We have been working so hard on reviewing all of our PBIS expectations after our long break.

Second Grade Explorers

Happy New Year from Second Grade! The school year is flying by! We are all so excited to be back and getting into the swing of things. Second graders are working on developing a realistic fiction piece in writing. They are becoming pros at using adjectives to describe their characters’ traits. We are plugging away in phonics and are becoming stronger when sound mapping words. Students are transferring what they’ve learned in phonics into their everyday assignments, and we couldn’t be happier! Everyone is looking forward to a fantastic second semester!

Congratulations to our November/December Positive Office Referral Recipients

Know Your Going to be Absent? Use the Pre-Approval Absence Request Form

Students should be present in school every day unless illness or other extenuating circumstances exist. The Georgia Board of Education lawfully excuses students for the following reasons: personal illness, death in the immediate family, religious holidays, and other educational days as pre-approved by the school principal.

Parents/guardians must notify the principal of their request by completing the request form located on the school website at least five school days prior to the absence. Submission of parental/guardian request does not guarantee approval. A school administrator or designee will contact the parent/guardian upon the final decision. As in the past, absences for illness, death in the family or religious holidays can be approved by sending an email to northwoodattendance@fultonschools.org.

  • The principal/designee approval form is to be used for extenuating circumstances only.
  • One form is required per student.
  • Submit the completed, signed, and dated form to northwoodattendance@fultonschools.org.
  • Your student’s attendance record will be taken into consideration when reviewing your request.
  • A copy of the decision to accept, decline or amend your request will be emailed back to you.

If you would like to request a pre-approved absence, the Absence Request Form is available on our website under Attendance.

Handbook Highlights - Late Arrival/Tardy

The school day for students begins at 7:40 am. Students are permitted to enter the school building at 7:10 am after the school bell rings. If you are carpooling, students are expected to remain in cars with their parents until the bell rings at 7:10 am. Parents are not permitted to drop off their children unsupervised outside/inside the school any time before 7:10 am. These procedures are in place for the safety of all students.

Late Arrival/Tardy

Late arrival is any time a student arrives after the beginning of the instructional day. If you are not in the building by 7:40 am, you are considered tardy. If this occurs, parents must accompany their student in the building and sign them in at the front office.

Save Time For You, Less Stress For Your Student

This school year we've upgraded to an integrated attendance system where there is one laptop designated for checking students in and out. While the new process is efficient; a line can form when there are multiple tardies. Save yourself time waiting to check in; and lessen the stress for your children by arriving before 7:40 am.

Semester 1 Report Cards Sent Home Today

Semester 1 report cards will be sent home starting today. The "Art" grade was left off of the paper copy, however, you can view all of your student's the grades in the Parent Portal.
