From the Office
The upcoming Holiday season is approaching, and many special events are planned for the coming weeks so please mark your calendar with any activities noted below that pertain to your child.
We are most grateful for the volunteerism and support our community offers during these busy times. A big thank you goes out to Tina and Geoff Barnes who facilitated orders of wreaths, poinsettias and trees - my goodness they are beautiful products. Your coordination of this for our community is much appreciated! We are excited for our "New to You" sale and recognize this doesn't happen without dedication and preparation. Thank you to Nina Bishop and Brigid Johnston who with a group of adult and student volunteers will carry off this favourite #AwesomeArmour event! We continue to welcome donations until Monday, Dec 3rd and all students will have the opportunity to visit during a specified time throughout the day on Tuesday. Our annual Book Fair will be taking place next week and we are appreciative of our volunteers and the work of Ms. Vowles, our teacher librarian, who will be dedicating time to this special event taking place Dec 12 - 14th. Watch for details about wish lists, our open house evening event and all things Book Fair!
Congratulations goes out to our Junior Volleyball team who competed this past Friday at Kenner CVI. Ms. Casselman said the athletes grew with every game. Well done everyone and a big shout out to our fans who caught a game - we always appreciate your support!
There will be numerous observances as well throughout the weeks to come and we will present this information in a way that is meaningful and appropriate for students. We look forward to seeing many families and community partners in our school in the coming weeks. Should you have any questions or inquiries about our upcoming events, please call our school office and we will do our best to offer clarification and information.
Happy December,
Ms. McIlmoyle Parsons

"Share the Warmth" event
We are very fortunate to have a variety of donated children's winter apparel at our school. We share these donations with students as the need arises at school through the winter. At the turn of the season this year, we wanted to reach out to our community to let you know several gently used items are available should your child be in need of a new coat, snow pants or boots. This week we will continue to have a "Share the Warmth" table in the front lobby of the school and we encourage families in our community to come by, try on items and feel free to take needed items home to stay warm over the coming winter. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.
New to YOU Sale - December 4th
Would you like to do something good for the environment, the community and our #AwesomeArmour students?
As part of our fundraising efforts Armour Heights School Council will be hosting a “New To You” holiday gift sale on Tuesday, December 4th 2018. Each class will have the opportunity to come down to the gymnasium to browse the “New To You” holiday shop to purchase gift items for family and friends. All gifts will be priced $1, $2, or $3.
In order to make this event FUN and SUCCESSFUL – we need donations of gently used items by Monday 3rd of December.
KGPS Students moving to the Ridpath Campus for 2019/2020
By now all of our families have been made aware of the plan for King George students and staff to move to Lakefield for the 19/20 school year during the extensive construction of the new East City School occurring on the King George site
While the community recognizes the importance of student safety, this move will be also be an adventure and the recent announcement has created a variety of questions. Parents and guardians of King George and Armour Heights' students are invited to join us on Monday, December 3rd at 6:00 pm in the King George gymnasium for an important information evening. Limited child minding for school aged children will be available for families that require this assistance.
Please see below the two resources that were shared with families of both Armour Heights PS and King George PS on November 28th, now also posted in the documents area of Edsby.
A Festive Evening at AHPS
We look forward to sharing this time together as a community and will be accepting monetary donations that evening at the door in support of our Nutrition Program that supports all our students.
If you have any accessibility needs, please don't hesitate to contact the office for information or support - we look forward to sharing this special evening with family and friends of #AwesomeArmour!
Inclement Weather & Hot Lunch Information
Should buses be cancelled to Armour Heights on a Pizza Day, the pizza will be provided on the following day. Please note that should your child be absent on any regular pizza lunch day, you may call the school and request to pick up your child’s lunch. Lunches cannot be held over at the school due to health reasons.

Every Student Matters KPR Survey
Every Student Matters Census
In the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, we are committed to helping all of our students experience success. To support this goal, we will be conducting our first ever Every Student Matters Census in February 2019, to better understand the needs of our students and school communities.
The data collected will provide the school system, families, and the community, with valuable information to improve our programs and services for the benefit of all students. All information on individual students will remain confidential.
We invite members of our school communities to learn more about the census project, and ask questions, at Community Information Sessions happening in various regions of the school board. All sessions will take place from 6:30-7:30 pm and all are welcome. The Peterborough Information Sessions will be held at Prince of Wales Public School on November 21st and at Lakefield District Public School on December 6th.
