The Manning Weekly Newsletter
October 2, 2020
Manning Community,
I want to take a moment to thank our office staff! Our administrative assistants are incredible people, professionals, and so dedicated to our families and the success of Manning. We all know that the backbone of every school (and why it runs as well as it does) is its administrative assistants. So much thanks to Shannon, Melaine, and Jade! You guys are incredible.
I would also like recognize our students for their amazing dedication, passion, and just being who they are as people; kind, courageous and awesome! I'm so very proud to call myself the principal of The Manning School of Academics & Arts.
Finally, I want to thank our community. We wouldn't be where we are today without your support. Of course, please continue to provide us with helpful feedback so we can continue to make improvements. As you all know and recognize, we've been given the challenging task of creating a wholly different way to do business and reforming/creating new ways to educate your student(s). I'm confident though that we are well on our way to making our structures and processes better every day, so our Manning community continues to have the very best user experience!
I look forward to seeing many of you in our next town hall meeting this Wednesday, 10/7, starting at 5:00 p.m. (link below) Until then, have a wonderful, relaxing weekend:)
Stronger Together,
Christian Ramaker

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up soon! In order to provide conferences this year, we are going with the following format:
SCHOOL SCHEDULED CONFERENCES (invitation appt. only):
Thursday, October 8th, 4:00-8:00 p.m.
If you are the families of these students, your teacher will be sending an email to parent(s)/guardian(s) by the end of business, Friday, October 2nd to schedule an appointment with you and your student. This email will include a Sign-Up Genius link and either a Zoom or Google Meet link for the meeting. During these 10 minute slots, each teacher will have 8 minutes for each parent/teacher conference, so they can get to their next conference on time.
Of course, we are here for each family and support each of our students. Since we can’t be in person, we can’t host an open conference night inviting every family, like we’ve done in the past. Please continue to monitor your students attendance and grades in Campus and if you have any questions, please feel free to email your students teacher or counselor.

We will schedule appointments with those parents whom teachers are requesting to see by the end of the day on Friday, October 2. If you have not heard from one of us by then, you can assume that you do not need to attend the school scheduled conference times and that you are welcome to reach out to a counselor to schedule an afterschool meeting and talk with teachers.
Mobile Mustang Information Corral
Welcome to October. We are looking for ways to have our students connect with each other and us and build a stronger relationship. One of the ways we do this is asking your child to turn on their camera during classes and break out rooms. Seeing other students allows for more opportunities to ask questions of other students, to build self esteem, and shows the teacher and others that they are engaged learners.
With that, there are legitimate computer issues that may prevent your child from having full access to the tools they need. If they have removed extensions or restarted their computer (often the most helpful fix) and are still having trouble enough with “glitching” in class, turning off the camera can help. However, students also use their wifi or computer issues as an excuse to turn off their camera. This leads them to be less engaged in class and less likely to build relationships with other students.
Here is a link to the most common and easy fixes that may be Chromebook/wifi related manning.link/cb-issues If you continue through these possible solutions, please contact the appropriate contact and they may be able to help.
Thank you for your support of your child and Manning!
Pre-Arranged Absence Form
If you know that your student will be absent from school for two or more consecutive days, our school policy does require your student to complete a pre-arranged authorization form that can be found on our website under the Student Resources tab or the student can pick one up in the main office. Your student is required to take this form around to all of their teachers and counselor to obtain a signature with the final drop off at the main office for our Principal to sign and approve.

SEL Corner....a place to fill up your bucket
Flexibility- oftentimes it’s easier to ask for someone else to be flexible than it is to be flexible ourselves. Rigidity comes up when we have a need or a want that isn’t being met. Like predictability. Humans love predictability. We are finding predictability where we can these days. I’ve noticed my desire to re-watch shows has increased a lot of the last six months, it feeds my need for predictability. Today’s tidbit is designed to encourage us to find places where we are being inflexible and could be more flexible, reflect on what the underlying need is, and find a place to get that need met.
Rigidity is a form of protection- think of the walls of a building. We want them rigid enough to keep weather out and stabilize the inside. But, too much rigidity and a big storm-what happens? Cracks appear and potentially things break. We are the same. The wind will test us, we need to bend enough and yet maintain our boundaries. It’s not an easy thing to do or answer to find. Like everything in the realm I work in- it requires some reflection, some discomfort, and some action to find growth.
I am offering two sources to connect- every other Mondays at 930 am and every other Tuesdays at 3 pm. These will be offered on discordant weeks. Options are provided from now through the end of October, more dates will be added once a few meetings have been held. A zoom link will be emailed the night before, or once all slots are filled. Use this Sign Up Genius to reserve your spot. The next dates for these are Monday, October 12 @ 2pm and Tuesday, October 13 @ 9:30am
I will bring topics for discussion; however, we can veer from the prepared topic and discuss what is going on for either your student or our community at large as it relates to social and emotional needs. Topics like stress, time management, anxiety, friend stuff, or everyone’s favorite: puberty.
If these times don’t work and you’d still like to chat, please reach out. I am eager to support and partner with you.
