I'm not volunteering, can I still come watch?

There is plenty of space outside of the fenced-in area for spectators. In order to keep events running smoothly, we ask that only volunteers, students and staff are inside the fenced area. Plan to bring chairs and shade if you want to watch!

Lunch Information

Mrs. Morgan wants to remind you that there will be only 2 options for lunch this day- peanut butter/jelly sandwich OR a hot dog.

Lots of Learning this Week!

2016 Weather Balloon Launch

2nd grade students launched a weather balloon with The University of Indianapolis on Friday morning! This was made possible by a grant secured by Mrs. Compton through Brighthouse. Each ZCS elementary school launched a pod that was attached to the balloon. The pods contained an experiment in each pod, and there was a camera inside each that took a picture every 20 seconds. Here were the experiments launched:
  • PVE- bubble wrap
  • UE- Sour Patch kids and a ball
  • SGE- a bag of Fritos
  • BME- a vial with a balloon on top (deflated) and seeds that they will plant later
  • EE-marshmallow pinwheel cookie

Mrs. Drake was in the chase vehicle and provided a video update as they followed the balloon. It weighed approx 15 lbs and traveled 90,000 feet in the air before popping. The weather determined the distance it went. Students submitted questions to the chase team about the balloon as they traveled. Pretty amazing! Click HERE for details about where the balloon traveled!

Students in Ms. Wyatt's class are practicing math facts using Math Power Towers! They are working on multiplication facts up to 12.

Ms. Wyatt's mom, Sally Wyatt, came in and was their Mystery Reader this week. She taught the kids about Geese and the business that her family started a few years ago called Geese Police. Mrs. Wyatt brought an informational book about geese which was a great mentor text to use and show students. She also talked about the design process and finding a problem and then searching and brainstorming for a solution.

Special Announcements

From Nurse Hannah

Medication Pick-up: We are asking for your assistance in picking up any medication that your child currently may have in the health care clinic by May 26, 2016.

We will not be sending any medication home with students, even over the counter medication. Parents must pick up ALL medication.

Any medicine that is not picked up by the end of the day will be destroyed by St. Vincent health professionals.

If you have any questions, please contact the clinic.

Immunization requirements for 2016-2017

State law stipulates that the medical records of children on file at school show the required immunizations have been completed by the 20th day of the school year. That day is Sept. 6th, 2016. Information regarding immunizations requirements for 2016-2017 can be found here.

Parents of children whose immunizations are not up-to-date should contact their health care provider or the Boone County Health Department to schedule an appointment for the necessary immunizations. Some pharmacies also carry the necessary vaccines.

If parents object to immunizations, a written objection must be on file in the school office by September 6th, 2016. Children who do not have up to date vaccination records by that date will not be allowed to return to school until the proper immunization information is on file. Students who have appointments with their health care provider after September 6th may present proof of that appointment in order to stay in school

If you have any questions, please contact Hannah Gerke, school nurse, at 317-873-2376. Thank you!
