Barber Bulletin
This weekend, Teach to Lead will hold it's 14th Summit in Austin, Texas and Pontiac staff members will be there! After 70 ideas were submitted, 17 school teams were selected to represent 14 states across the country! Topics range from:
Better school/communicty collaboration
Supporting new teachers
Rethinking professional development
Family engagement
Our team, made up of 4th grade teacher, Marissa Young, Principal, Katie Barber, 5th grade teacher, DeAnna Savage, District Technology Specialist, Chuck Holland, and 3rd grade teacher, Ashley Saullo, will develop an action plan in an effort to create a systematic approach to blended learning instruction in grades 3-5. Marissa Young will serve as our Team Lead and the others of us are the Idea Participants.
Our school team leaves Friday morning and after returning on Sunday evening, we will expect a follow up from Teach to Lead 45 days after our professional development.
We are looking forward to a weekend of learning together!
Open House
We hope you will join us on Tuesday evening for OPEN HOUSE! Open House is a great way to learn more about our school and your child's classroom. At 5:30pm, our PTO is hosting parents for a brief meeting to learn more about what the PTO does for our school and how you might get involved in this parent organization. Light refreshments will be provided!
Each classroom will host (2) sessions. The sessions will begin at 6pm. The first session is 6pm-6:25pm and the 2nd session will begin at 6:35pm. Please plan to attend one session in your child's classroom. Don't forget, the BOOK FAIR will also open for our families so you can shop! Thank you for your continued support of our school!
ASAP Reminders
We have a new Payment Processor on staff for ASAP. Ms. Rhonda Ingram will be available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week at the ASAP desk to help parents who choose to make payments in person or that have questions about their account.
REMEMBER; Parents are encouraged to pay their weekly fees online. Mrs. Ingram will monitor these accounts weekly to make sure they are up to date. Also, Mrs. Debra LeGrand, School Bookkeeper, is available to take your payments during the school day.
The rates and guidelines for ASAP were listed in the 2017-2018 registration packet contract that parents signed.
Students enrolled in our After School Program must keep their accounts current.
Any student with a balance of more than 2 weeks past due will be suspended from the program until the balance is paid.
We thank all of our ASAP Parents who diligently keep their account current. We enjoy serving your children and providing a safe, fun, learning environment for them after school.

Make-up Day Set
Richland School District Two will make up Monday, September 11, missed due to Hurricane Irma, on Thursday, Oct. 19. That means:
Wednesday, Oct. 18 becomes a full day for elementary and middle school students and remains a late start day for high school students. Elementary and middle school parent/teacher conferences move to Thursday, Oct. 19.
Thursday, Oct. 19 becomes an early dismissal day for elementary and middle school students and a full day for high school students. Elementary and middle schools hold parent/teacher conference on this day.
Friday, October 20 becomes a holiday for students. Teachers and other 190-day employees attend the district inservice.
Why now?
Scheduling the day now allows us to recapture instruction time during the same semester of the missed day, while giving our families and employees advanced notice of the change in the schedule.
The teachers, principals, administrators and executive staff that make up Key Leaders and the Superintendent’s Faculty Advisory Council overwhelmingly supported this plan.
State law requires school districts to make up at minimum of three days of missed school before requesting days be forgiven by the local school board.
Employees, students and parents have shared that using all the make-up days in the spring is difficult.
It’s only September, and the past two years have not been kind to our meticulously planned school-year calendar (October, we’re looking at you).
Why isn’t one of the three required inclement weather make-up days scheduled in the fall?
When making up missed school days, our goal is to successfully and meaningfully recapture lost instructional time. Therefore, school districts try to schedule make-up days after the months when inclement weather that might prompt school closings is most likely to occur. Otherwise, we have to scramble to find days or add days to the end of the year.
