This is the time of the year that a key focus is on engaging and learning. As our Seniors head towards their external exams it is important they ask for support and help with their studies, parents ask your children about their exams and their learning so there are no surprises when the results come out January 2023.

No exception for our Juniors it will be expected they too will continue to engage in their learning and have a positive and excellence attitude. We all want to finish 2022 on a high.

I would like to take this time to thank all our Year 13 students of Rosehill College 2022, thank you for being positive role models and leading by example, thank you for your loyalty and pride and I would like to wish you all the best and know, we are all proud of you.

• Year 13 students will have their NZQA Assembly at 12pm and will then, with the exception of Prizegiving prize winners, be dismissed to continue their study for external exams.
• Year 12 students will come to a Year 12 assembly for NZQA exam information during Period 4 and with the exception of Prizegiving prize winners, be dismissed.
• Prizewinners and Student Leaders need to remain behind for the Prizegiving rehearsal at 1:15pm.

Interim reports showing the grades for all finalised internal assessments and the school exam results can be viewed on the portal from today

1. Register on the NZQA site a Learner Login to access standards, past papers, and sample answers.

2. Know from the Student Portal or Tutor Group Teacher what credits have been gained and what are still to obtain.

3. Complete all internals by the end of this Term.

4. Aim for 14 credits per subject including the externals.

5. Take advantage of subject tutorials and further opportunities to gain credits.

6. Know what is in the exam.

7. Have a study timetable - 3 x 30 minute sessions per day.

8. Study little chunks repeated often, in quiet.

9. Phones are a distraction - parents should have them during study time.

Just a friendly reminder that our 2022 Health Consultation process has begun at Rosehill College. We invite all parents and whānau to give their feedback and consideration on our Health Education programme by Friday the 11th November.

An information letter and survey link has been sent to your email accounts that have been registered with the school. Please check your junk folder if you have not already received it then feel free to contact the school. Hard copies are also available from our school Reception.

The Debate Evening is the last meeting of the student-led Debating Club at Rosehill College.

The evening will include two prepared debates and an impromptu debate, where we invite parents and families to support club member in their research.

We will have a BBQ to celebrate with our parents and families, with the club presentation at the end of the evening.

The Debate Evening will be held in the Library and Courtyard on 28 October after school from 5pm until 7pm.

Clearance time is almost here. Senior clearance will be held from Wednesday 26 to Friday 28 October. Next week we will be asking students to return their borrowed items, including library books, sports uniforms, and any other books.

Items can be returned to the Resource Room, Library, Sports Office or the Student Office. We greatly appreciate your support.

All senior students will receive through their school email an electronic 'Senior Clearance Form' on Tuesday 25 October to complete. Once completed they will receive a receipt copy in their school email. Please check that your student has completed the form and received the confirmation email.

The senior students were asked to clear their lockers this week in preparation for the NCEA exams. It was advertised in the Daily Bulletin and the students with allocated lockers received an email through their school email. If they have not cleared their locker, we will take this as permission to donate the contents of your locker to charity. If you have any concerns please go to the student office.

It's now Term 4 which means summer holidays are just around the corner! Children and teens who don’t read much over the long summer holidays can lose gains they've made in their reading levels and fluency over the year. This is true for all children, but especially for children who are already struggling readers. Children who keep reading over the summer holidays can avoid the 'summer slide' and may even make reading gains for the start of the next school year.

We are pleased to say that we are offering our Summer Reading programme again this year. Students can borrow up to 10 books from the library for the summer holidays. They will also have full access to our huge selection of eBooks and Audiobooks online.

If you or your child are interested, please collect a permission slip from the library. It is important to note that summer reading is about reading for pleasure and not studying. Your child may choose books that are easy to read or that they have read before, please encourage them regardless of their book choice.

The Hertz Residential Scholarship is for Māori and Pacific students beginning a Bachelor of Business. It’s worth $10,000 and there are 5 on offer. This is a great opportunity for eligible students. The scholarship is open now and closes on the 1st December.

We are looking for students currently in Year 11 who are interested in attending MIT - Te Pūkenga Trades Academy next year. Trades Academy involves going to MIT - Te Pūkenga one day a week instead of school during term time only. You will need to liaise with your subject teachers to ensure you keep up to date with all your classwork. In 2023 we have the following courses and placement numbers available:

• Full year Automotive Engineering – 2 places
• Full year Building – 7 places
• Half year Building / half year *Electrical – 8 places (you must complete both)

*The Electrical course does require you to have reasonable science results.

You gain NCEA Level 2 credits. There is no cost, and all necessary equipment is provided along with transport from school.

If you have chosen Trade Skills as a Year 12 subject, you cannot apply for the Building or Building/Electrical courses at Trades Academy.

If you have chosen Automotive as a Year 12 subject, you cannot apply for the Automotive Trades Academy.

Welcome back to Term 4.

This term is all about the juniors as our seniors leave us.

We will be running a Year 9 & 10 girls only fitness/boot camp for four weeks from Wednesday 2 November in Gym 1. There is limited space so if you would like to be involved please come and sign up in the sports office.

Unfortunately the second game of Battle of the Tracks had to be called off early in the second half.

With the game not reaching its conclusion, the decision was made that there would be no result from this match.

This means as the current holders of the Battle of the Tracks trophy Rosehill will retain the trophy for 2022.

A huge thank you to the boys involved in the team for their commitment to representing Rosehill with pride. A huge thank you also to Tommy Shelford who gave up his time to coach the boys this year.

I look forward to the boys defending their title in 2023.

Skateboarding

At the end of last term Lachlan Carrol and Benji Saseve represented Rosehill College at the inaugural Auckland College Sport Skateboarding competition held at Barry Curtis Park. Lachlan and Benji were amongst 40 students from around the city who competed in this event. The hope is for this to become an annual event.

Well done Lachlan and Benji.

Volleyball

Our junior volleyball teams took to the courts last night for the first time.

While we had some mixed results the teams had a great time and the games were played in good spirit and they represented Rosehill well.

I look forward to seeing the teams progress and improve as the season progresses.

Running Club

The running club had their first session this week.

There are two sessions a week which anyone is welcome to attend. You can attend one or both sessions each week.

Monday morning (7.15am – 8.15am) is a 30-45 min aerobic run. We have a few courses planned out around the streets of Papakura/Karaka. We will run as a group (or 2) so it will be safe and social.

Wednesday afternoon (3.45pm – 4.45pm) will be a more structured session. We’ll do some drills, play some games and work on developing some fitness, speed and technique.

Uniform

Only the sports hoodie ordered through the Sports Office is counted as a school uniform. These hoodies are designed to NOT have a name on the back, if a name is added after collection from the Sports Office they become a non-uniform item. All other hoodies & jackets, regardless of whether or not they have the school crest, are not school uniform and will be confiscated. Please do not wear these at school, they are for training and game days only.
