Dear Watertown Families and Caregivers:
It is with deep sadness that we find ourselves once again faced with the devastating and tragic news of the shooting at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, students, and community members in this Texas community. Like many of you, we worry about the frequency of these events across our country and understand the anxiety that many of our students, staff, and families may be experiencing.
Our top priority is the safety and well-being of each of our students and our staff members. In WPS, we work closely with our local law enforcement and public safety agencies to ensure that we have the necessary safety and emergency protocols in place. We have both district- and school-based Critical Incident Teams that are trained in emergency response protocols and are prepared to support our students and staff whenever the need arises.
In this age of prolific online information, it is possible that your children, especially at the secondary level, may be very aware of what happened today in Texas. It is important to provide the space and opportunities for children to process what they have seen and heard. Our school community will take care of our students and each other tomorrow and in the coming days.
If you feel that you need support with your children processing this event, please reach out to one of the school’s guidance counselors, social workers, or administrators. Additionally, below you will find an excellent resource that you may find useful.
Sincerely,
Dede Galdston, Superintendent of Schools and the WPS Leadership Team
