The Husky Howl
NOVEMBER 9-13, 2020; Semester I, Week 11
A NOTE FROM YOUR HUGHES MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS
HMS Parents and Friends,
Welcome! We are excited about seeing our returning students as well as our new students this week. We have students joining us for the on-campus learning environment from the virtual learning environment. We know that there will be some learning taking place today just about how school is different on campus than it was before COVID19. But, we know our students will help their neighbors make sure we all get on the same page and staying as healthy as possible.
This week holds new opportunities at Hughes Middle School. First, it's the beginning of a new grading period so every student has the final opportunity to raise his/her GPA for the semester. Second, all HMS students have the opportunity to purchase books through our online Book Fair. Check it out at EFAIRS.FOLLETTBOOKFAIRS.COM using our school code of MLKED. Finally, our 6th graders have the opportunity to receive their NEW DISTRICT CHROMEBOOKS. Please note the details in this newsletter about Tuesday's exchange plan from the district. This is a lot of great news! Take advantage of these good times at HMS.
As mentioned, today begins a new grading period. Please have your child take advantage of tutoring in classes assistance is needed. It is never too early in a grading period to get ahead. Our HMS teachers are ready to serve your child so have them sign up today. Teachers' email addresses can be found on our HMS website if you are not familiar with tutoring schedules. Drop teachers a line and let your child start this week.
We want to remind our families that we are checking dress code compliance and ID compliance every day at HMS. Unfortunately, some students are wearing items that are explicitly deemed "Not Allowed" such as pajama bottoms. Parents, we are asking you to review the attached "Bulleted Dress Code" for this year and check for compliance before your child leaves for school. We know you would rather not be interrupted during your day to come to Hughes to exchange clothing items for your child. Also, check your child for their ID before leaving for school. If your child does not have their official school ID two days within a week, he/she will be serving a lunch detention before the week ends. Replacement IDs cost $2.
In closing, we hope you will take a minute to learn about our October Teacher of the Month and our October Students of the Month. We are so proud of the those selected to represent our school for last month.
We are working with you to develop responsible and respectful young adults. We know together, our HMS scholars will make us proud now and in the future.
Until next time,
Your HMS Administrative Team
Parents and Students, would you PLEASE...
Thanks so much to you all.

NOTE FROM THE DISTRICT TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
We have finally received the new Dell Chromebooks we ordered last summer!
Technology will be on campus Tuesday November 10th to exchange 6th grader Chromebooks for on-campus learners during the school day. Three members of the Technology team will be onsite for distribution and at least one person from the campus will assist with scheduling and calling students to the distribution location.
We will also set up a drive-thru at the school from 5pm-7pm for virtual learner Chromebook exchange. Parents will drive up in front of the front entrance and exchange the Chromebook without leaving the car. We ask that parents claim a free ticket from one of the available time slots in order to reduce waiting times in the drive-thru line. Tickets will be available through Eventbrite at the following link - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hughes-ms-6th-grade-virtual-student-chromebook-exchange-tickets-127774313411.
The new Chromebooks are only for grade 6 students @ Hughes Middle School.
