Morgan County School System Students Receive $5.6 Million in Scholarships

The Morgan County Schools Class of 2019 has earned a combined total of $5,614,923.00 in college scholarships. Here's a closer look at the numbers broken down by school:
Brewer High School:$1,009,332.00
Danville High School: $1,257,996.00
Falkville High School: $1,200,000.00
Priceville High School: $1,574,115.00
West Morgan High School: $573,480.00

These students will be attending Calhoun Community College, Wallace State Community College, Snead State, Faulkner University, Jacksonville State University, Western Kentucky University, UAH, UNA, University of West Alabama, The University of Montevallo, The University of Mississippi, The University of Alabama, Auburn University, and The Naval Academy.

Congratulations to the 2018-2019 Morgan County School system's STAR Program graduates. The STAR Program graduation ceremony took place on May 17, 2019 at the Albert P. Brewer High School campus.

Morgan County School Students Place in Decatur Daily's Design an Ad Art Competition

Congratulations to the following students for placing in the 2019 Decatur Daily, Design an Ad Art Competition. Each student received a medal, cash award, and gift card. The student's artwork was published in an edition of the Decatur Daily newspaper. Arwen Saare-$500 scholarship winner to Calhoun; Anna Maxwell-Overall Winner; Whitley Payne-1st place in the 10th-12th-grade division; Gia Tankersley-2nd place in the 10th-12th-grade division; Lily Craft-1st place in the 7th-9th-grade division; TaShauna Mason-2nd place in the 7th-9th grade division. Cylei Dodson-3rd place in the 7th-9th-grade division; Jessica Morrow-3rd place in the 10th-12th grade division.

May 9, 2019 Meeting of the MCBOE

Students from West Morgan Elementary School gave the Student Leadership Showcase presentation to the MCBOE at their May 9, 2019 meeting. Recognized by the MCBOE that evening was the cast and crew of the MCS 2019 Countywide Musical "Bye Bye Birdie" and Danville High School student Elizabeth Vest, recipient of a 2019 School Superintendents of Alabama and Schneider Electric Scholarship.

Cotaco Junior High School Student and Staff Member Win VFW Awards

Congratulations to Cotaco Junior High School 6th-grade student Ashlyn Watkins for winning the VFW Post 4190 Patriot's Pen Essay Contest, and to Cotaco Junior High School teacher Cindy Greene for being chosen VFW Teacher of the Year.

MCBOE Approves New Administrators at Priceville Junior High School and Eva Junior High School

During their May 9, 2019 business meeting, the Morgan County Board of Education approved recommendations from the Superintendent regarding new administrators. We welcome Mrs. Tracie Turrentine (right) as the new principal of Eva Junior High School and Mrs. Ashley McCulloch (left) as the new principal of Priceville Junior High School.

Priceville Elementary Schools Students' Artwork Displayed at Alabama Sports Hall of Fame

Fourth-grade students from Priceville Elementary School were honored to have their softball portraits displayed at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in Birmingham, Alabama. This special Bicentennial Timeline of Alabamian Baseball Players exhibition will run from May 1st to May 16th, 2019. West Morgan High School Student Receives Academic Award from Calhoun Community College

Russell Haggard, an eleventh-grade student at West Morgan High School, was recently recognized by Calhoun Community College as "The Most Outstanding Physics Student" for the 2018-2019 school year. Mr. Haggard is a dual enrolled student completing courses at Calhoun Community College and West Morgan High School. He also scored in the top 1% nationally on the PSAT. We would like to congratulate Mr. Haggard for this outstanding academic accomplishment.

Lacey's Spring School Celebrates Earth Day

To celebrate Earth Day, Arbor Day, and a great week of testing, students at Lacey's Spring School recently got out of the classroom and put some of their learning to practical use. Students, parents, and community members worked together to help beautify the campus, planting, weeding, and having a little fun while learning about conservation, civic responsibility, and community relations.
