Principal's Message
Hello Harper Families,
To all our 4th graders - Congratulations on “graduating” from Harper!
For those families that have fourth graders, I am sure over your last 5 years (or however many your child was at Harper), there have been ups and downs. Throughout every school year, there are supposed to be highs and lows. We grow and persevere from the lows and celebrate and appreciate the highs. This is what school is about and this is the message I want all our 4th graders to take with them as they leave Harper… there will be highs and lows in their future. Overcome and learn from the challenging times and be mindful and celebrate during the positive times.
We are so proud of all the 4th graders. They have been great leaders of our school this year and have really made a positive impression on us all. Congratulations and we wish them nothing but the best as they move forward to 5th grade.
Thank you for all you are doing and have a fantastic weekend!
Aaron
End of the Year Information
June 8 will be Harper Activity Day: Each classroom will begin the day with their classroom meeting (times set by each teacher) and then we have a fun day being created for you, led by our PE teachers. HERE is our activity day information so you can plan and prepare ahead for Monday. These activities will also be posted on Seesaw. The culmination of the day will be a grade-level Popsicle Parties on Zoom (or any other dessert or food you want to bring). HERE is a flyer to advertise for the party. We hope to see all the students there!
June 9 is our reverse car parade and supply pick-up: HERE are the details. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU come down Dartmouth Avenue that day.
Student council’s last mission for the year is also helping to make the reverse parade as fun as possible by encouraging all to decorate cars and make signs to say goodbye to the school year!

Device Information for the summer: Families of current Kindergarten through 7th grade students will have the option to keep the school issued iPad/Chromebook through this summer to facilitate any educational needs such as summer school, extended school year or online enrichment. If you choose to keep it, the device expectations for use and general care for the device extend through the summer months. There will be a fall collection with date, time and process to be communicated during summer from the District Technology Department. If you do not need the iPad/Chromebook over summer, or are not returning to District 39 in the fall, it can be returned back to school on June 9 during the reverse parade.
Social Emotional Information - Social Justice
Erin Medsker’s Social and Emotional Newsletter this week is focused on talking to children about social justice. Check it out HERE. It provides more valuable resources for you!
Also, CNN and Sesame Street have partnered together to host a town hall event addressing racism. It is Saturday at 9:00am. Information is HERE.
Congratulations 8th Graders
8th GRADE GRADUATION: We will be celebrating our 8th grade students with a drive-in graduation ceremony on June 9 at Northfield. Due to limited space, only 8th grade families are invited, and will remain in their cars, however, we look forward to live streaming both ceremonies (4:30 PM and 6:30 PM) for all. Please see the links below and save the date to watch. Additionally, teachers have been putting signs up around Wilmette at the homes of our graduates… be sure to honk as you drive by to recognize your graduating neighbors!

D39 Virtual Library
D39 Virtual Library will be available throughout the summer and provides many resources for additional learning and enrichment, such as eBooks, STEAM activities, Virtual Field Trips, options for Learning Something New, and Summer Resources!
Parent Planning Notes
District 39 Remote Learning Website: Informational resources HERE.
Parent Webinar: On Tuesday evening, we hosted a well-attended webinar for parents regarding our D39 planning for the fall. We provided updates on health restrictions as we know them to date, and we reviewed our many considerations for re-opening schools. If you were able to join us, we thank you. If you missed the webinar, a recording of the webinar is accessible here, and if you would like to review the presentation materials, the presentation slides are available here.
Parent Survey: Your insights and perspective as a D39 parent and valued partner will help guide our next steps in planning. Please complete our Parent Survey for Planning of Fall Re-Opening of Schools by Monday, June 8.
3rd and 4th Grade STUDENT Survey: Just like you (parents/guardians) have a survey about the Fall Re-opening, we are asking students in grades 3 and 4 to also take a survey. It was posted earlier today in their Google Classrooms but also is HERE. If you can check if your child took it that would be helpful. Please let the students take it individually though.
- MAP Reports and Report Cards: MAP reports from this school year will be in an envelope in students' supply bags on Tuesday, June 9. Report cards will be open to access on Thursday, June 11.
Returning Books: If you have library books or other classroom books checked out, please bring with you on June 9 and return during the reverse parade! If you have any questions or have a missing book, please feel free to email our librarian, Mrs. Pinney, at pinneym@wilmette39.org.
Summer Enrichment Programming: A new two-week “Jump Start to Fall Learning” option is being offered this summer. Families are encouraged to consider options and information provided on our 2020 Summer Enrichment Program website.
Playground Reminders: As the weather gets warmer, it is so refreshing and beneficial to be outside. We encourage all to take walks, safely ride bikes, and play in your yard. However, we want to remind you that school playgrounds are closed.
Giving and Receiving Support in D39: Wilmette Public Schools support the academic, social-emotional and physical needs of each child through a collaborative partnership with the greater Wilmette community. Through the generosity of families, businesses and affiliate organizations, District 39 is able to provide additional support to families when they need it the most.
PTO Updates...
All PTO positions for 2020/2021 will be on the Harperpto.com website by the end of the month. WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR A PARENT VOLUNTEER FOR GARDEN AND CHORUS. If we don't fill these two positions, garden club services will be reduced and chorus won't run at the school. WE NEED YOUR HELP. PLEASE CONSIDER.
Emily Primosch is your President and Laurel Nelson is President-Elect in 2020/2021. The PTO is in fabulous hands!

We are still trying to find the best way to send out the class video.
- Yearbook: The Yearbook will be distributed with your child's belongings from school. If you have not yet ordered one, you can email yearbook@harperpto.com to arrange to purchase one. There are only a few overrun copies so it's first in, first served! Cash or check $30.
