Macleans Primary School Community

Hi Everyone

What a terrific Rugby World Cup final the other day, although not that great if you are an All Blacks fan. I am sure we are all inspired by the All Black's efforts, Well done to the Springboks. The strength, skill, cohesion and resilience shown by the All Blacks and Springboks made for a great game for sure and a super example of professional sports and values in action. I wonder how many children who watched the game could align and match-up the Macleans Values with what they saw during the game?

PTA Colour Run on Sunday 5 November...tickets still available for purchase TOMORROW. This will be a great event so get your tickets now! See the notice below for more detail.

Parent voice helps us in our year review 2023 and Annual planning 2024. Please spend a few minutes and complete our 2023 Annual Parent Survey. Your thoughts and ideas will be shared and discussed at the next board meeting. Click here for community survey.

The Salvation Army Xmas Gifts Cazh raised over $500 for presents for families, and hot off the presses we raised over $400 for Mental health through 'Gumboot Friday' (held yesterday). I am sure the next Cazh Day on Friday 17 November - 'Cazh for a Can' - will be supported well.

Heaps of great information, updates and celebrations in this newsletter that cover all aspects of the Macleans Values and Macleans Learning vision.

Please enjoy this newsletter

Regards & Nga Mihi

Macleans Primary is now a Bronze Enviro School

Please join me in congratulating the Macleans Primary School Enviro. Team and key Enviroschools teacher Steph Van Wijk for coordinating their successfulk bronze reflection audit. An enthusiastic enviro group students from year 2 up shared how motivated they were by taking action for sustainability. They were strongly supported by all teachers, BOT members, and parents. Envirogroup members shared actions they were particularly proud of, Yan loved their Matariki soup and cant wait for next year’s. Zoe aged 6 went to the principal to ask if she could initiate a litter pick up group that is entirely run by her. She has a group that help her. Now she wants to expand that to include community. They have a wonderful powerpoint presentation showing how they’re covering Enviroschools guiding principles in all these while having fun doing this mahi and how motivated they are to do lots of next steps!!! Thank you and congratulations to you all and in particular to Steph for your dedication and passion and how you are involving students in a very comprehensive and significant journey of action learning and change so far in two years, including actions like minimising waste by over 50 %, adopting Murvale Reserve, taking part in Howick’s pest free Cadet programme, coming second in the moth plant competition with over 15,000 moth plant pods gathered, planting an abundant vegetable garden, lizard lounge, native ngahere and more.

Enviro. Initiative: Chip and food packets that can be turned into blankets (anything with reflective packaging)

Bring in your old chip packets and they can be used to make blankets. With shiny sides facing in, they become like emergency blankets where the user's body heat is reflected to help keep people warm and dry in cold or damp conditions. They can be dropped off in the office or given to Teacher Aide Davinia Massold.
