Earning the Square
Instructional videos can be very helpful tools for teaching complex skills because they can serve as a clone of the teacher! Students (and parents) may be able to access videos 24/7 for refreshers or simply because students need to hear and process information multiple times. They are great for eLearning days too! There are thousands of these videos online in every subject area, but creating your own is particularly effective. Students respond better when they hear their own teacher's voice and explanations are consistent with classroom direct instruction. This personal connection is more important than a perfectly produced and polished video.
To earn this square, create your own instructional video teaching a critical thinking skill and use it with your students. Below are a couple of example videos with complex math problems.

You may just want to use your computer's webcam or even your phone to record a typical video of you at the whiteboard. If you need to learn how to screencast (record your computer screen), the Opportunity Courses below will help you!
Finally, if you need some in-person guidance for to accomplish this and publish your video, please don't hesitate to reach out to Rachel. She would love to help!
