Superintendent's Top of Mind

In District 11, we believe every student should have access to high quality, rigorous instruction that will both challenge them and help them reach their dreams. This begins with our ability to create the conditions in our classrooms whereby students feel invited, accepted, and engaged. We are excited to pilot Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH, click here to learn more) in several of our schools as part of a larger investment in social/emotional learning. This work will be embedded into our core instruction so that students can connect both academic content with that of character development. Research shows that this holistic approach to instruction will not only increase students’ academic achievement, but also build their character, which can yield stronger friendships, improve communication, and increase networks of support. Please take the time to talk with your student about their classroom community, and I also invite you to be an active participant in their academic career. Let’s make the most of this moment together!

2017 Mill Levy Override Update

2017 Mill Levy Override Update

We thank our voters for passing the 2017 mill levy override in November, providing critically needed funds for D11 students, staff, and facilities. As part of the MLO, voters wanted to see funds directed to secure additional school counselors to ensure our kids are receiving the best guidance in order to maximize student success. As part of this promise, D11 has implemented a district-wide social-emotional learning curriculum. Additionally, six new elementary counselors have been placed at Adams, Edison, Fremont, Penrose, Rogers, and West Elementary Schools. Please watch for this newsletter each month, as we will be providing regular MLO updates.

Student Spotlight: Chloe Moyer

Chloe Moyer is a 5th grade student at Will Rogers Elementary. Her hobbies include singing and acting. She says she loves the caring atmosphere at Rogers, especially the free clothing closet for families that may need to supplement their child's closet. When asked what she loves most about her school, Chloe says, "I love how all the teachers are so nice and how this school supports our needs."
