"A Modest Proposal"

Swift harshly criticizes selfish and exploitative attitudes of wealthy Englishmen towards the starving people of Ireland. And they were literally starving to death back then in 1729. Jonathan first describes the pitiful plight of the poor Irish people.Then he discusses a solution for the impoverished Irish mothers to sell their babies to wealthy families to be killed and eaten. The Irish parents get profit and the English gets to enjoy some food. After all, their landlord have already figuratively devoured many of these babies parents.
