Extra Extra de Palisades

September 15 2021

A Few Things to Note

  1. Rainy Days
  2. Mask Requirements
  3. A Message from out PTO

The Rain is Arriving at Palisades

Please make sure your student has proper clothes for recess.

Rain Coats and water resistant shoes are essential for all students.

Recess will still happen even in the rain. Kids will be sent out as a complete class. For health and safety reasons students WILL NOT be able to remain inside. Under extreme weather conditions alternative arrangements will be made.

Along with rainy weather is colder weather. Windows will be kept open so please make sure your student is dressed appropriately for cooler classrooms.

Ready Schools, Safe Learners Mask Update

On September 9, 2021, Oregon Health Authority updated guidance requiring face coverings in all K-12 indoor and outdoor settings. All individuals 5 years of age and older are to wear a face covering outdoors when individuals cannot or do not consistently maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance from people not in their household.

This update means that when our students are outside for any school-related activity (including recess) and cannot maintain at least 6 feet of distance between themselves, they will need to wear masks. Students will be told by their teachers that we will start implementing this rule immediately, effective September 10, 2021. This is a great opportunity to discuss safety protocols with your children tonight. Thank you for your cooperation!

A Message from out PTO

Volunteers Hard At Work

We want to thank all the volunteers who donated to the successful opening of our school. We had parents cleaning up bags and bags of outside debris, trimming bushes, repainting our front entrance sign with perfectly matched paint, scraping the front poles that had been damaged and restaining them, power-washing the front walk and so much more. We also had volunteers donating flowers and flower pots, dropping off wonderful furniture, covering bulletin boards in paper and trim and purchasing items on teacher’s wish lists as needs arose. Thank you to each one of you for your hard work and love of our new school, you are so appreciated and part of what makes this community so wonderful.

PTO Packets

Your child will be bringing home with them two sheets from the PTO this week. One of them needs to come back to school filled out and there are three important things to watch for on this sheet. Please note if you are uncomfortable sending the form back with your child you can drop it off at the front office or mail it.

First to Acknowledge

The first concerns our new online directory. We are working hard to get it up and running for families to use this year and we need your help. Please note that you can opt out of having your information published and this form helps us guarantee you are opted out if that is your wish. The online directory is how you can connect with our community and a very useful tool! Opting out does NOT opt you out of school and PTO communication, just community communication. You will still receive communication from the PTO and the school community even if you opt out.

Additionally this form is a way of letting us know you would like to choose to have your child’s face or image kept private. This means we will not use any image that has your child in it for school or district communication or updates. We will still include your child in the yearbook, but checking this box will have the PTO and school staff double checking that your child isn’t in any images we use for updates or community sharing.

Another Option

The third is an option to donate to the PTO or opt for a sponsorship spot. We have made a suggestion of $50 a child, but it is only a suggestion and this is not required. You will receive all of the benefits of PTO membership and activities even if you do not make a donation. If you are choosing to donate we can receive payment in the form of a check made out to Palisades PTO or using either square or Venmo (@ptopal) or by scanning either of the images below. If you are interested in sponsorship we are eager to partner with you or your company. The QR codes are on the pieces paper that was sent home with your child.

Matching Donations

Many businesses offer matching donations for monetary or volunteer hours. Please reach out to your company to see if they will match your donation of time or money. If you need a specific type of receipt please let us know, we are happy to provide that! We are a registered 501c3 and can work with you and your place of employment to make this an option.

PTO Executive Team Elections

As we discussed over the summer in our meetings, our current executive team was elected on an Interim basis to get us up and running. We will be accepting nominations over the next week and will reach out to those who have been nominated to confirm they wish to run. The beginning of October we will send those candidates out to the community for a vote with the hopes of having an Executive Team in place to run our October PTO General Meeting.
