What's Going on in the Library
October is Fire Prevention Month
Every year during this time we take the oppurtunity to review drill procedures in the library and computer lab with all library classes. During fire prevention week we also read and discuss ways to stay safe in the event of a fire. Students also explored the National Fire Safety website. There is a link to that website below; it is filled with lots of great information that is educational and entertaining.

Spotlight on Nutmeg Nominee Books
In Just Ask, United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor celebrates the different abilities kids (and people of all ages) have. Using her own experience as a child who was diagnosed with diabetes, Justice Sotomayor writes about children with all sorts of challenges–and looks at the special powers those kids have as well. As the kids work together to build a community garden, asking questions of each other along the way, this book encourages readers to do the same: When we come across someone who is different from us but we’re not sure why, all we have to do is Just Ask. Author Interview
Classes listened to this interview after hearing the book read aloud.
Book Quote of the Month
“Books loved anyone who opened them, they gave you security and friendship and didn't ask for anything in return; they never went away, never, not even when you treated them badly. Love, truth, beauty, wisdom and consolation against death. Who had said that? Someone else who loved books.”
