DPM Newsletter - October 14
Friday, October 14, 2022
Dear DPM Families,
Short weeks fly by, but not without a lot of fun! Our students engaged in basketball tryouts and choir dress rehearsal. Students in 6th grade learned about ratios with recipes and participated in scooter soccer in Wellness, which was a highlight for several students. Students in 7th and 8th grade Wellness have been choosing stations ranging all the way from football to archery, and 8th grade scientists have been hard at work in the lab working on the components of starch.
We also hosted a parent event for our 8th grade families to prepare them for the year and a smooth transition to Lake Forest High School! (If you missed the event, you can view a recording here.)
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Megan Eigenrauch, 5/6 Principal
Sam Paulsen, 7/8 Principal
Email Notification

Halloween Celebrations
On Monday, October 31st, we will celebrate Halloween with homeroom parties as well as students being allowed to wear costumes. With this in mind, we are asking and expecting that the dress code be followed. If it is not followed, parents will be contacted to bring alternative clothing for their child.
Students may only apply make-up, color their hair, or put on costumes at home. Parents should have full knowledge of what their child will wear to school.
Students are not permitted to wear masks.
Students should respect political and/or religious beliefs.
Students should not wear anything that has a sexual connotation or would be considered inappropriate dress.
Costumes that promote graphic violence are not allowed (i.e. blood, gore, etc).
Students should not use costume props of a violent nature, such as toy guns, toy knives, and/or swords, etc.
There will be a special celebration for each grade level, so please look to your homeroom teacher for more information if you have any questions.
Lockdown Drill Planned
As required by Illinois, schools must provide sufficient information and notification to parents and guardians in advance of any walk-through lockdown drill that involves the participation of students. DPM is planning to conduct our lockdown drill on Thursday, October 27th, 2022.
As required by the Illinois School Safety Drill Act (105 ILCS 128/20), schools must also provide parents and guardians an opportunity to exempt their child for any reason from participating in the walk-through lockdown drill. If you wish your student to be exempted from the law enforcement lockdown drill, please complete this form prior to October 27th.
If your student is exempted from the drill, the school must provide alternative safety education and instruction related to an active threat or active shooter event. Students who do not participate in a walk-through lockdown drill will be provided with essential information, training, and instruction through less sensorial safety training methods.
Deerpath Road Resurfacing - Begins the week of Oct. 17
IDOT’s contractor will begin resurfacing Deerpath Road the week of October 17 (one week later than originally planned). Deerpath Road will be resurfaced from Westmoreland Road to the west side of the creek adjacent to the Public Safety Building. Resurfacing involves grinding the roadway and placing new asphalt, which will require intermittent lane closures with flaggers directing traffic.
To limit traffic impacts, the contractor has been instructed to avoid lane closures on weekdays during peak school traffic hours (i.e., 7-8 am, 3-4 pm). Since Deer Path Middle School has conferences on Friday, October 21, the City has given the contractor permission to work throughout the day without stopping.
Please allow extra travel time getting to/from school next week.
