Dyslexia Screening Virtual Training (Primary RtI Coordinators Only)
The purpose of the Skype Training is to prepare the RtI/SST Campus Coordinators for the process of screening all Uplift Kindergarten and 1st Grade Scholars for “at risk factors associated with Dyslexia”.
If you are unable to participate the session will be recorded for viewing at your convenience. This training will prepare coordinators to train kinder and 1st grade teachers on how to complete the screening.
MTA Instructors: I have included you in this training in the event that the RtI/SST Coordinators have questions about who to refer to SST based on the screeners.

Spring Snapshot Changes for RTI/SST
For the upcoming Spring Snapshot we will be following the same PEIMS process for RTI as we do for capturing 504 and SPED scholar data. From this point on we will utilize the RtI PEIMS Form that is included below. I worked with the PEIMS CMO team to ensure a seamless transition. Their team will train the campus PEIMS Coordinators ahead of the Spring Snapshot. For any new Tier 2 or Tier 3 Scholars please complete the form and give to your campus RtI Coordinator by March 7th. This form only needs to be completed for those Tier 2 and Tier 3 scholars that are not recorded in Powerschool as receiving intervention. If you have questions about whether or not a scholar is already indicated please see your campus PEIMS Coordinator. Please work with them to cross-reference your SST caseload ahead of the March 7th deadline.
RtI Handbook
You can access the handbook by clicking on the link listed below, or in the Special Populations folder of Ishine. A brief Rti Handbook Webinar will be posted in the Special Populations folder of Blackboard by 1/25/19. Additionally, an “RtI Meeting Document Exemplar” will be given to each campus RtI/SST Coordinator and made available at Leadership Academy.
The Dyslexia Handbook
The Texas Dyslexia Handbook has been updated and approved by the State Board of Education (SBOE). The updates address recent legislative changes and clarify processes regarding identification and services for students, including students with dysgraphia.
The handbook also contains guidelines for school districts to follow as they identify and provide services for students with dyslexia. Additionally, information regarding the state's dyslexia statutes and their relation to various federal laws is included. The updated Dyslexia Handbook is effective immediately. A link to the updated Texas Dyslexia Handbook is included below.

Parent Communication
By the time a student enters Tier 2 or Tier 3 parents need to be informed by their classroom teachers of what the scholar is struggling with and what the plan for intervention is. Once a scholar enters Tier 2 or Tier 3 the campus SST needs to contact the parent by phone or in writing to notify them of the SST process. A sample Parent letter is available on the Shared Google Drive (English and Spanish) and can be copied onto campus letterhead.
Parents of scholars participating in the 504 program need to be informed as well, especially if changes need to be made to their 504 plan. Parents are not required members of a 504 team, however, they need to be updated and informed. Their input and participation is instrumental in ensuring their service plan meets their needs.
Every parent deserves to know when their child is struggling and we owe it to them to ensure they know the measures we're taking to helping their child be successful. Let's be sure to communicate with them the extra steps we're taking to promote their child's success!
