BOOK SWAP is coming!
Independent reading is designed to give students continued opportunities to expand and practice reading strategies. In the classroom independent reading provides the opportunity for teachers to provide explicit instruction to increase competence and encourage students to monitor their own reading.
When: Whittier’s Annual Book Swap will begin Monday, March 4th
We would appreciate any donations of GENTLY USED books that are appropriate for Pre-K- 5th graders.
Gently Used: please no tore pages, not written on or damaged books. Donation boxes will be placed throughout the Whittier.
All students will be able to attend the BOOK SWAP during the week of March 4th to select the perfect book.
Volunteers Needed: to help with setup, restocking books or helping students find the perfect book. You can volunteer half hour or more. If you would like to volunteer please contact, jacqueline.cramer@fcps.org or sign up here .
FCPS Perceptual Survey
Dear FCPS Parents and Guardians:
FCPS is launched a survey on Thursday, January 24 to gather your perceptions about your child's school. The survey date has been extended until February 28th
WHES sent a letter home with each student on January 24th, explaining the survey. The letter includes a link for parents and guardians to access and complete an online survey. This link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FAM2107 is specific to Whittier Elementary.
A limited number of paper copies of the survey will also be available in the front office. Parent/guardian feedback is important to FCPS and the staff at Whittier Elementary as we continue our work building on strengths and striving to make improvements as a partner in your child’s education.
Please contact our front office if you have any questions about the survey. Thank you!
Out of District Approval Process
Please be aware that the FCPS Regulation 400-15, the Assignment and Transfer of Students was recently revised to include new submission dates for yearly applications. The new dates that out-of-district applications must be submitted to the Department of Student Services are between January 2 and March 1 prior to each new school year. You will have access to reapply by going to the FCPS website at FCPS.org, going to the link that states “For Families and Students,” and then scrolling to the out-of-district section. There you will find a link for the application that will be active starting on January 2, 2019 and will close at the end of business on March 1, 2019. If you are in need of a paper copy of the application, please contact 240-236-2493 to make this request.
FCPS will publish schools identified as over-capacity and thus restricted for the 2019-2020 school year after December 1, 2018. Please note that the restricted schools are not open to out-of-district transfers.
