Elementary School Guidelines
When a student is screened and found positive for lice, the parent or designated emergency person is notified to pick up the student. The student should go to his/her classroom and retrieve any personal items needed and return to the health office.
When the parents arrive to pick up the student, the parent/guardian will be advised to contact the student’s doctor and treat their student according to the recommendation of their physician. Provide the parent with written information from CDC or other appropriate source for cleaning instructions.
The district requires students to be NIT-FREE upon return to school. This has been thoroughly considered and has the support of administration and the school MD. Parents must personally accompany their student to school upon the first day of return so that the School Nurse can confirm that the child is nit-free. He/ she can then re-enter school.
If the student is still not nit-free, he/she will not be allowed to re-enter. Parents will again need to contact their physician and follow the prescribed treatment plan.
