Good Evening Placerita Families…

I hope you have had a good week wherever you have been.

This week we are in the middle of the fourth quarter. The next progress report goes through this Friday the 28th with progress grades posted on May 1st.

VERY IMPORTANT - Please read the letter from Sandy Halstead our Placerita Parent Organization President about the planning for our Staff Appreciation activities. Thanks so much for your help with this project!

Thank you to all the current 6th and 7th grade families that interviewed for ASB. We had a great group of students. We look forward to next year’s group being a wonderful group.

We have a School Site Council meeting on Thursday, April 27 at 2:45 M in Room 44. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

This week we begin our CAASPP testing for this school year. This is the one time of the year thankfully that we have standardized testing. See the schedule below. Teachers have been working with students in preparation for the schedule for the next two weeks. ALL of our assessments take place in the regular classroom that the students are in. We do adjust our schedule for some block days so students have more time in sessions and are not rushed. See the flyer below for the schedule.

If your student has been working on NJHS (National Jr. Honor Society) hours see the flyer and info below. The induction ceremonies are coming up next week on May 3 and 4.

See the invitation for 8th Grade parents below for the Hart Parent Organization’s (HPO) Luncheon. There is a link for your RSVP. They would love to see you there.

We are very happy to bring back the Tennis Club to Placerita! Mr. Olsson who ran the club for many years retired but he is going to bring it back for a few weeks on Wednesdays after school. The times will be announced in PE classes this week.

If your 8th grade student is going to the Universal Trip please remind them they will need their ID to board the buses for the trip. If they have lost their ID they can replace it in the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch. The first replacement is free but they are $5 after that.

Next week will have a section in the Prospector devoted to our Personal Device policy for next year. We are going to be joining the other Jr. Highs in our District in having greater restrictions on device access for next year. We will have a whole section on this topic next week. Don’t miss that information.

We continue the Placerita Playoffs this week with the Academic Decathlon. Last Friday’s sports event was a lot of fun! ASB sponsors these events and they are always a lot of fun.

Esta semana comenzamos nuestras pruebas CAASPP para este año escolar. Este es el único momento del año, afortunadamente, que tenemos pruebas estandarizadas. Vea el horario abajo. This year's Staff Appreciation Week will be held on 5/1 - 5/5 with a luncheon on 5/26.

ASB and PPO are working together this year to show our appreciation to our Teachers and Staff members. With your help, we would love to create an amazing fun-filled week for them and a nice sit-down luncheon. We are looking for your help with donations.

We are asking for money donations ($3-$5) to help fund this big event (any amount would be appreciated).
If you happen to be creative or know someone who is, and would like to donate something you made, that would be awesome too!
Please remember, All donations are strictly voluntary.

Drug Free Youth in the SCV Club on our campus is a group of students who meet to learn about how to live drug free and to help others to make commitments to do the same. Below is some information about drug names and slang. This program could not happen without a great partnership with the City of Santa Clarita. They have specific staff that work with students across all grade levels in our valley.

If you have not heard in the news LA County is having serious cases with fentanyl. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50-100 times stronger than morphine. Pharmaceutical fentanyl was developed for pain management treatment of cancer patients, applied in a patch on the skin. Because of its powerful opioid properties, Fentanyl is also diverted for abuse. Because of its concentration it can be deadly to anyone who comes in contact with it.

Our District has shared a video link from YouTube that puts this in perspective. I believe you may have received this link earlier last week; however, if you missed it you can view it at the link below. If you believe your student(s) are able to view this we believe it is your decision as the parent to allow them to view. We do not have plans at this time to show this at school; however, we have reminded students on MMTV to make sure they do not take anything in their bodies that they shouldn't. This even includes the Chip Challenge that is going on with TikTok right now too. Students around the country are challenging others to eat very hot chips. Talk to your students about this so they do not participate. Thanks for your help!

Hello Placerita Families! We have some very exciting and important news for our community.

The new Student Care Line for Placerita will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems.

If you are a student, parent, or community member with a concern that needs attention from an administrator at Placerita please text us here. You can send a text message to (661) 282-7522. All text messages received will be forwarded to our former Text-A-Tip line. We now have a new reporting system for our students and their families to use to share a concern about another student's well-being. This reporting system is called the Student Care Line.

Over the last several years, the William S. Hart Union High School District has placed an emphasis on student wellness. Knowing that a student who feels emotionally supported is more successful, the District set out to open Wellness Centers on each of our campuses, with the first of those opening in August of 2019. Now the District is looking to expand this effort even further by taking the existing Text-A-Tip line and re-branding it as the new Student Care Line, providing a more comprehensive function.

Text-A-Tip has been used by students, staff and families to report something out of the ordinary. With the goal being “If you see something, say something"; Text-A-Tip was there to report if someone was wanting to hurt themselves or others, or even if there was the possibility of someone committing a crime.

The new Student Care Line will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems. Cause for concern might be indicated by:

• Trouble controlling emotions

• Withdrawal from friends and usual activities

• Feelings of rejection or solitude

• Feeling constantly disrespected

• Frequent loss of temper

• Increased risk-taking behavior

• Talk of suicide or loss of hope

• Self-harm

• Declining school performance

Students and families are at their best when their emotional well-being is supported. Please join us in our commitment to this effort by using our Student Care Line when you need it.
