19th Annual Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund Basketball Tournament
What a great day we had on Saturday at the 19th Annual Tamanend Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund Basketball Tournament!! So many members of the Tamanend community did so much to make this year’s fundraiser such a success! Here are some highlights of this year’s event:
-250 students were registered to play.
-Almost 200 games were played from 9:00 am until after 5:00 pm.
-Many students who did not play still attended to cheer on their classmates or lend a helping hand.
-Many students from National Junior Honor Society assisted in various ways in preparation for and throughout the day.
-Student Council did a phenomenal job in running the cafeteria and assisting in other ways.
-Our gift baskets raised a tremendous amount of money, and many people won some great items.
-Many staff members came to support the event and/or participate in some of the contests that were going on.
Special thanks are extended to the following people:
-The Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund Tournament Committee who worked countless hours in planning and running the event:
-Mrs. Fink and Mrs. McFarland who collect and account for all student donations.
-Mrs. Murray who works to coordinate donations and sponsors as well as directs the involvement of NJHS members.
-Mrs. Orinski and Miss Vitacco who pull everything in the Cafeteria together and do so much for and with Student Council’s involvement in the fundraiser.
-Mr. Heisey who coordinated the activity rooms and helped with a variety of other things throughout the day.
-Mr. Tauber, who continues to come out of retirement, ran shooting contests and games in the auxiliary gym and had--again!--another successful day.
-Mrs. Myrtetus who provided nursing coverage for the entire day.
-Dr. Caughie and Mr. Dudley for supporting our efforts and helping with everything throughout the day.
-Mrs. Villa and Mrs. Kirkpatrick who helped with so many different tasks as we prepared for the fundraiser and assisted on Saturday, along with Mrs. Consoletti, in running the gift basket table.
-Our custodial staff who helped with so many different tasks before, during, and after the fundraiser
Congratulations to the following people:
-All of the gift basket winners.
-All of the staff who helped in various ways and/or attended the fundraiser.
-The parents who assisted throughout the day and stayed many hours to help.
-Most of all….the students who did such a great job in raising so much money for a great cause, conducting yourself so well throughout the day and earning compliments on your behavior, your dedication, and your efforts from many parents and community members, competing on the basketball floor but remembering to keep the focus on the spirit of the tournament, proving that you are aware of how important it is to give to others, and making this year’s tournament another great success.
-A special thank you to Mr. Klein for chairing and leading the Kelly Anne Dolan Committee for many years. You are a true example of what Tamanend represents.
The total amount raised is still being calculated, but we are confident that Tamanend has raised over $28,500 for KADMF this year! That puts Tamanend’s contributions to KADMF, since our partnership began, to over $475,000 and keeps Tamanend as the leading contributor to KADMF since our fundraiser began.
Congratulations on making the Tamanend community so proud!!
An Exciting Week for the New Tambucks Cafe and our FRIENDS Group!

Great job, students and staff!

This Week's Teen Talk
What is Teen Talk? Each week, we will include a resource in our newsletter designed to promote conversations between parents and children regarding important issues related to teenagers. We hope that these resources serve to help parents and students navigate the excitement and challenges associated with the teenage years. In addition, we will highlight topics that we are discussing in Advisory and in presentations so that you may continue the conversation at home with your teen.
This Week's Teen Talk Topic: Safe 2 Say Reporting System
On March 1, all students will learn about the Pennsylvania Safe 2 Say Something school safety program in assemblies (https://www.cbsd.org/Page/44056). The program is designed to encourage teenagers and others to report safety concerns so that those and need can get help. Please consider discussing this important topic and resource with your teen.
Students Make "Blessing Bags" for Angels in Motion
Students in Advisory created “Blessing Bags” for the Angels in Motion organization. The bags will be distributed to the homeless in the region. Thank you, students for making a difference in the community!
February's Featured Teacher is Mrs. Ryan
Mrs. Ryan has taught grades 7 through 11. She has been teaching for eight years and her favorite part of being a teacher is watching her students grow from 7th to 9th grade. Mrs. Ryan’s hobbies include spending time with her kids and watching football. Mrs. Ryan attended college at Gwynedd Mercy. Her favorite food is ice cream and her favorite color is blue! Do you enjoy watching The Bachelor? Well if so, Mrs. Ryan does too! Mrs. Ryan is married and has two daughters. Imagine your toes in the sand of Hawaii or Bermuda, which happen to be Mrs. Ryan’s favorite vacation spots. Have you ever heard of the author Nicholas Sparks? Well that’s Mrs. Ryan’s favorite author. Mrs. Ryan loves all music except country. When Mrs. Ryan retires, she can see herself on a beautiful beach. I hope you enjoyed February's featured teacher!

Jazz Band Performs at Competition
Congratulations to the Jazz Band for their first successful competition of the year. The Jazz Band played really well at Upper Moreland and received many compliments from both Tamanend parents and Upper Moreland audience members. Some highlights for the evening include the band winning two section awards. Both the Flute and the Trombone sections were the sole recipients of these awards and Tamanend was the only band awarded with two separate section awards for the evening! And individually, Jerry Zhou won a solo award for his improvisational work on tenor sax. Congratulations Jazz Band and good luck this Friday at Strayer Middle School.

Reminder--Student Assistance Program (SAP)
The Student Assistance Program (SAP) has been established in schools throughout Pennsylvania. SAP Programs provide schools with the means to identify, refer, and support students who are exhibiting behavioral, academic, or attendance issues that put them at risk. Tamanend has a team of dedicated school personnel who are trained to assist students, faculty and family members in identifying problems that impact the student’s ability to function in school. The team can also offer students and their families resources to assist them in alleviating these problems. For more information about the SAP Program, please click here. To complete a SAP referral form for a Tamanend student, please click here.
Reminder--The Next Meeting of the Tamanend Parent Book Club is March 13
Join us for the Tamanend Parent Book Club. This year, we will be reading Raising Kids to Thrive (2015) by Kenneth R. Ginsburg, MD. This book club will follow a "no-pressure" format in which the facilitator will present a summary of the chapter and open the floor for discussion. We will share resources and ideas with the goal of helping the entire Tamanend parent community navigate the challenges of raising adolescents.
Meetings are held at 6:30 in the Tamanend Library
