The Power of Words

The following video shows the power of our voice. How can we help ourselves and our students realize the power of re-framing our thoughts and ideas to produce positive results? You might be the only positive voice your student comes in contact with each day.

Just this week, the transformation of one of our students brought tears to my eyes. They came to school not feeling successful and struggling as a learner. Their countenance was downtrodden and was accompanied with a severe case of "I can't do it" attitude. This child's shoulders now stand a little taller, and their eyes sparkle as they smile! Learning still isn't easy, life is hard, and there's a long way to go, but this child now has HOPE. It is evident. Please do not underestimate the power of your words. They're making a difference! Keep letting your light shine.

  • Kristi McAndrew for entering a classroom with a fresh perspective and urgency to support and uplift children to succeed!
  • Merrie Watson for putting together a professional development in no-time flat!

My Favorite Part of the NY Times Article

It's always nice to have affirmation we're on the right track! We're already doing this during our PLCs.

We also need dedicated time weekly for teachers to meet in teams to improve their work. When teachers don’t examine students’ work together and discuss how to improve their teaching, they stop growing. When teachers stop growing, classrooms become dead zones where everyone is watching the clock. In contrast, when educators are actively learning with their colleagues, they understand their students more deeply, they hone lessons in response to their students’ needs and they bring that lively thinking into their classrooms.
