Is Your Schedule Realistic?

New Year, BETTER Schedule

The Basics

As a Keystone student you are allowed to enroll in anywhere from one to six courses at a time and you are given up to 12 months from the date of enrollment to complete these courses. However, you are able to finish your courses in less than one year as you do have 24/7 access to your online lessons and assignments. The shortest amount of time that you are allowed to finish a course is eight weeks (two months).

When deciding on a plan for your courses and creating a schedule you need to be realistic. The rules may state that you are allowed to finish your courses in two months BUT is that really going to be possible? Well, if you are enrolled in six classes, then the answer is no. A student enrolled in 6 classes would need to work on their courses 27 hours per day to finish them in two months—there are simply not enough hours in the day.

Take some time today to review the schedule you have created for your courses. Ask yourself the following questions:

Ideally you should not spend more than 6-6.5 hours a day working on your courses. Use the Time Management worksheet found in the Creating a Schedule section of Resource and Orientation Center to determine how much time you will actually have available to devote to your courses. Over-committing can lead to feelings of anger and frustration. Avoid this by coming up with realistic course schedules and your Keystone independent-learning experience will be smooth sailing!
