Goal Setting CONVERSATION
Through the goal setting conferences, we are setting the tone for teachers to own their goals, and have the autonomy to pursue learning that meets their needs as a professional educator. One way we can build trust with teachers and work towards meaningful learning systemwide is to ensure that the mandatory beginning of the year "Goal Setting Conference" has a conversational tone and focuses on TEACHER goal ownership.
What does it look like if...?
Using reflective questions can help teachers visualize their end goal, and create clarity around "fuzzy" topics. What does "success" look like, how will you measure "engagement", what does it sound like when students "collaborate".
Small but Powerful Difference in Action
It is easy to create a list of things that we know we should do, or could do as we plan for the year. This question can be used as a reflection to ensure implementation plans are steps towards ensuring their LEARNING.
Making it all Match
If you tell me your foundation and your action steps-I should get a good idea as to the focus and outcome of your TPG/SLO. Once these two components "add-up", it is easier to form a clear picture of the goal.
