PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear T-Bolts,
Hopefully this summer has been an opportunity for you to relax and reboot for the upcoming school year. This letter signifies the return of our T-Bolts home with the perfectly created school theme by our Class of 2022 Senior Leaders of Bring Back the Thunder!
I am also excited for what's to come for VJA! The potential of our freshmen and sophomores with the combined energy of our juniors and seniors are key ingredients to an outstanding year! Our hope for the 2021-22 school year is to support and care for each other while continuing our legacy of high expectations. We are so excited to welcome ALL of our students back to our campus this year! Our focus this year is to connect with all students both in and out of class.
On Monday, we welcome back ALL students, but our focus will remain the same...connecting with all T-Bolts. Opportunities and activities have been created to ease students' return to school while keeping a positive and fun atmosphere to celebrate our return!
Here is a link to the District 230 Reopening Plan which outlines District-wide COVID-19 protocols, daily schedules, bell schedules, etc. This information was previously sent to all families by District 230 at the end of July.
COVID Safety Protocols
All students and staff are required to properly wear a facemask indoors while on campus. Masks are not required outdoors.
Masks must be worn on all school buses or other school arranged transportation.
All students are required to wear their school ID and lanyard while on campus. ID’s and lanyards will be distributed to students on their first day of school.
Hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes will be available throughout the building, including in each classroom and in the Commons.
A minimum of 3 feet of physical distancing has been created in classrooms and lunchrooms whenever possible.
Contact tracing will be completed for any individual identified as COVID positive on site per CCDPH guidelines.
VJA will be offering regularly scheduled vaccination clinics for VJA families.
Lunch
Students may bring or buy lunch.
Students buying lunch must utilize their school ID or ID number. Money can be loaded onto their accounts through the D230 Web Store on the district website. Here is a link to that site.
Money can also be loaded on IDs through the Cashier Office located at the school.
We will have outdoor seating opportunities for as long as the weather permits.
What Do I Need to Bring?
All students will receive a syllabus for each of their classes during the first few days of school. The syllabus outlines not only expectations and important course information, but it will also have a list of needed materials for students to bring to class.
Bring a notebook and writing utensil to take general notes for the first day.
Freshmen and transfer students will receive their Chromebook on the first day of school.
Returning students should bring their Chromebook on the first day. (Please make sure it is FULLY CHARGED!)
Student schedule (may be printed out from the Skyward App). Students should have an electronic copy viewable Skyward, or take a screenshot on your phone of the most updated schedule.
Safety-Arrival and Departures
Please read the information below covering parking lot safety information. We ask that all students/families exercise safe, cautious, and courteous driving within the Andrew High School parking lots. Additionally, this letter outlines drop off/pick up protocols that we ask that students and families adhere to.
The following are general parking lot reminders:
Watch for walkers
Do not block crosswalks / yield to pedestrians
Be attentive when driving and avoid distracted driving behaviors
Remember that the parking lot is most crowded shortly before the beginning of school. Consider arriving at campus before 7:50am for a shorter drop off time.
Follow the directions of staff members in the parking lots who will assist you in locating designated drop off areas.
The following information is related to student drop off/pick up:
Bus Transportation: Buses will drop off Lakeside (north side of the building).
Car Riders: Students are to be dropped off Lakeside (north side of the building). Students will enter/exit the North Door (North Door opens and is supervised at 6:45am) or N-4. Main Entrance will also be utilized for student drivers or walkers. Once students arrive at school, they are only allowed to leave if off campus pass procedures are followed. Student pick up at 3:00pm will be on the south side of the building.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please give yourself enough time if dropping off your child. With the large number of cars trying to get onto campus at the same time, there can be back ups, particularly at the beginning of the year. Our Commons is supervised for students who are dropped off early beginning at 7:00AM.
Student Drivers: We ask that students are attentive to all general parking lot safety reminders. Additionally, students should exercise caution at all times when walking within the parking lots.
We hope you find this information useful. We are so excited to see all our T-Bolts return home.
Sincerely,
Abir Othman
Principal
