"What's Going On In Our World"
Mrs. Sadler's PM Math and Science Class
9/21/2017
These past weeks have gone by incredibly fast! I am enjoying getting to know your children, and building relationships with them. We are having a lot of fun growing, and learning together.
Mathematician's Corner
As mathematicians we have worked through adding and subtracting decimals. As a class we worked through dividing whole numbers and decimals. We also learned how to multiply whole numbers and decimals. Please continue to enforce a "growth mindset" at home, and to celebrate mistakes because they are opportunities for growth.
Next week we will begin a unit on Fractions. We will start by doing a hands on unit that will help to build conceptual understanding of fractions. I look forward to sharing pictures with you!
Here are websites that students can use to practice math at home:

Scientist's Corner
As Scientists we have concluded our investigation into the Science Process Skills. We will be using the Science Process Skills throughout the school year. This week as scientist we read articles about how our oceans around the world are being polluted. Throughout our Unit of Study on Landforms and Oceans our class will focus on what we can do about this issue as environmental scientists. We also reviewed what mountains, canyons, valleys, plains, deltas, and glaciers are. Next week we will inquire into weathering, erosion, and deposition.
Questions to Ask Students During Discussions about Science
- What are continental landforms and how are they formed?
- What happens when water flows over earth materials?
- What is weathering, erosion, and deposition?
Science Standards
- Indicator: 5.E.3B.1 Analyze and interpret data to describe and predict how natural processes (such as weathering, erosion, deposition, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, or storms) affect Earth’s surface.
- Indicator: 5.E.3A.1 Construct explanations of how different landforms and surface features result from the location and movement of water on Earth’s surface through watersheds (drainage basins) and rivers.
Articles We've Read Related to the Pollution of Oceans
