Food packaging requires protection, tampering with resistance, and special physical, chemical or biological needs. It must be able to maintain freshness, be protected from contamination, allow for easy transport in bulk quantities, and promote appealing to customers.
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) - is applied to food packages for supply chain control and has shown a significant benefit in allowing food producers and retailers.
Materials
Quality decortation enhances higher value of food packaging products. The materials that can be used for food packaging are metals, glass, papaer, plastics, packaging films, and laminates. All food is packaged in different containers. Packaging protects the foods from food germs and bruising, and also extends shelf life. Metal packaging is 100% recycleable.
The size of food packaging is $110 billion in annual sales. An estimation of 350 million food packages exist on the shelves in U.S. grocery stores.
