Farley Elementary School's Weekly Family Update
THOUGHTS and THANKS
Dear Farley Families,
As this week comes to a close, I am humbled by the outpouring of your generosity-in all things-money, time, efforts, and support. As of today, you have officially raised $30,282! Thank you to all who donated and/or got donations on your child's behalf. The Fun Run was more the FUN and I was so happy to see all the caregivers cheering us on.
None of this would have been possible without caregiver Tara Sagor at the helm. This fundraiser is no small feat and requires countless hours of planning, prepping, and coordinating. Somehow she manages to do it all while working full-time and raising three kids. She is an inspiration. The day after our Fun Run, Tara was already emailing me about possible dates for next year's Fun Run!
In addition to Tara, numerous other caregivers helped support the Fun Run along the way. Special thanks to Lainie Dougherty, Lauren Sullivan, Christina MacDonald, Gilma DeFranzo, Kelly Forti, Kelly Willard, Jessica Corbosiero, Rebekah Obermeyer, Erica Ankstitus, Sarah Lynne Millson, Elizabeth Loura, Lindsay Jordan, and Rachel Santiano. You stuffed hundreds of lockers with prizes, you danced your hearts out on the sidelines, tied hundred of shoelaces, and made sure all students were well-hydrated. I am so grateful for all the ways you help make our community safe, strong, and motivated.
The slime has been ordered and we have a tentative date of October 20th for the sliming. Unfortunately, caregivers are not invited to see me get slimed but don't worry it will be video recorded. School-wide PJ Day will also take place on the same day. I've got new Fox slippers this year that I can't wait to show the students.
Don't forget that next Wednesday is our first of three "Walk, Bike, or Roll to School Wednesdays". We are encouraging all students to walk, or roll to school that day. If you usually drive your child to school or he/she/they takes the bus, please consider biking or walking with your child. To ensure safety, caregivers of students walking to school should make sure their children have adult supervision or that they travel in groups. We look forward to seeing countless Farley families walking, biking, or rolling to school that day! Have a lovely weekend! Sunday look like incredible weather!

CAREGIVER MRS. CASTO BECOMES A PARA!
Last year, Farley was lucky enough to have Jess Casto as substitute in our building. Well, she loved it so much she wanted to become a permanent fixture this year! We were happy to accommodate that. Now, Mrs. Casto is our new Grade 2 Paraeducator! A wife and mother of three past and present Farley Foxes, Mrs. Casto is a Hudson resident and absolutely loves it here. She has yellow lab named Willa who she considers to be her best friend. In addition to working full-time, Mrs. Casto co-runs the Boutwell baseball field Snack Shack. That means she watches a ton of baseball and gets to see a lot of our students and their families at the ballpark. In her spare time, she loves to fish, go shopping, listen to country music with her daughter, play catch with her son and just lounge on her couch and snuggle with with dog. Thanks for choosing us Mrs. Casto!

September 26, 2023 6:30-8:00 virtual session-WHAT IS GOING ON IN THAT BRAIN OF THEIRS? (The Neurobiology of Emotion)
Have you ever wondered what is going on inside your child’s brain? This presentation will use information from the Biosocial Theory to explain how brains react to different interactions and how that affects emotional responses. By understanding where our child is on their “emotion curve” and where we ourselves are on our own “emotion curve” we increase the chances that our responses will lead to more effective interactions. We will discuss different ways to respond to our children to shift their emotion curve and improve communication.
October 3, 2023 6:30-8:00 virtual session-WHAT IS GOING ON IN THAT BRAIN OF THEIRS?
(The neurobiology of thinking and behavior) Have you ever wondered what is going on inside your child’s brain? This presentation will use information from the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics to explain how stress, environment, and interpersonal connection all shift our brain function and thus our thinking and behaviors. You will learn how to observe and understand behaviors in a different way. We will talk about different things we can do to create an environment and approach that can activate our children’s potential.
October 17, 2023 6:30-8:00 virtual session-UNDERSTANDING ANXIETY
(How do we use an evidence based approach to help our children overcome anxiety)
We will discuss the difference between normal anxiety and anxiety that is clinically problematic. We will also discuss how we as parents can be most helpful to our children and what to look for when looking for effective treatment.
PAW PRINT REWARD STICKERS!
Students get Paw Print Stickers for going above and beyond. When a staff member "catches" them doing something spectacular, they get two stickers-one to wear and one to put on their homeroom Fox poster. When their classroom Fox poster fills up with stickers, they get to have a classroom celebration. If you see a paw print on your child's clothing or backpack, please ask them why they got it.

Two weeks ago, Ellen Schuck, the Head of Technology for the district, sent out her Technology Newsletter. This publication has essential information about all things related to HPS technology, including how caregivers can access the "ASPEN Parent Portal". Below is the link to her newsletter.
