Balclutha Primary School - T2 Wk 7
Newsletter 17 June 2022
Principal's Report
After numerous delays, lots of frustration, and very patient students, we are finally seeing some action on the resurfacing of our playground.
This project was originally due to be completed in December last year, but due to shipping delays we are running 6 months behind time. If you have been into school this week, you will have noticed that the contractors have started to lay the pads that go below the turf. Final prep work for the surface will hopefully be completed this weekend, and the remaining pads and the turf are due to be laid next week.
Our students are very excited to see the latest developments and are looking forward to getting back on to the playground equipment.
Thank you to everyone who has helped get us to this point. Hopefully next weeks newsletter will contain some pictures of our newly resurfaced playgrounds.
Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki Neave.
Staffing Announcement
Due to a large influx of New Entrant students, and more still to come, the Board of Trustees has decided to fund an additional class for terms 3 and 4. From the beginning of next term, Room 1 will be split and the older students in Room 1 will form a new class in Room 4. We are excited to announce that we have appointed Miss Billie McHardy to be the teacher of this class. She is currently teaching a junior class at The Catlins Area School. She has a range of skills and experience at the junior school level and will be a welcome addition to the BPS team. Parents of Room 1 students will be contacted in the next couple of weeks to discuss the best option for their child.
Reminder - Matariki Day

Top Team (by Harold Karrol, Top Team Participant)
On Thursday we attended our second round of top team. The Top Team competition is between teams of ten students from each school in the district. This term's top team was based on a Maori game called Tapu Ae. The aim of the game was to hit as many balls off the cone in a red semi circle which you weren’t allowed in. It was just like netball except there were four defenders and four attackers.
Our team won one game out of four.

Mid Winter Mufti Day
Next Tuesday 21st June is the shortest day and the middle of Winter. BPS will have a 'winter woollies' mufti day. Students can wear their warm winter clothing. Students do not need to bring a coin for mufti day, it is just for fun!
