John C. Fremont was an American military officer,explorer,and politician who became the first candidate of the anti-slavery Republican Party for the office of President of the United States.During the 1840's,when he led the 4 expeditions into the American West,that era's penny press and admiring historians accorded Fremont the sobriquet during the Mexican-American War,Fremont,a major in the U.S Army, took control of California from the Bear Flag Republic in 1846.
Why did he move West?
John C. Fremont moved West because there was a threat from the Confederates so they camped in St.Louis suburbs.He and his men declared war on the governor of Missouri.It took a few men of troops to take down the Confederate soldiers.That is why move west.
