FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Easter
Dear Parents
PCPS focussed our efforts during this Lenten season on doing things for others and praying for them, especially those who are suffering in the world. Each family was provided a Project Compassion box and many of the children gave up their own pocket money to give to those in need. It was wonderful to see our Year Six Spirituality Ministry giving up their time before school to sell raffle tickets to raise money for Project Compassion. Lucky prize winners received an Easter basket full of goodies to share with their families.
This year each child at PCPS made a beautiful butterfly and their teachers discussed with the children about the butterfly being a symbol of change and new life. The colourful butterflies were all displayed in our Prayer Room creating a whole school mural. On the back of each butterfly the children wrote their Lenten promises, some of which included doing jobs for mum and dad, giving up lollies, helping their friends, giving up Netflix and doing jobs for grandma and grandpa. Giving up chocolate and Nintendo was also a popular Lenten promise this year!
The children have spent time in the Prayer Room reflecting on their Lenten promises and Holy Week and the joy of Easter Sunday to come. Our little ones in Kindy and Pre-Primary hatched eggs and butterflies as part of their learning about Easter and new life. The children were so excited when the butterflies popped out of their cocoons and delighted in the little fluffy chicks when they arrived. The children have had lots of discussion around eggs being a sign of new life and the fact that we share Easter eggs with our friends and family as this is the time when we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection.
Refurbishments
Our freshly painted hall looks sensational!
We also recently added a beautiful quote on one of the walls to inspire our children – Imagine with all your mind and believe with all your heart, achieve with all your might.
Refurbishment of the Early Learning Centre Playground area will commence in the April holidays. Keep an eye out for the transformations that will be occurring, making our early years playground a contemporary nature play based environment, sparking imagination, creativity, and inspiring play ideas from our little ones.
Farewell
This week Mrs Cusack came in to say a special goodbye to everyone as she commences her retirement. We were able to farewell her COVID style!
Enrol now for PK and K 2023 and beyond
Enrolments are now taking place for Pre Kindy and Kindergarten 2023, 2024, 2025. Please note that Kindy 2023 is almost full so if you have a sibling you have not yet enrolled please see Mrs Ellen in the office immediately otherwise you may miss out!
COVID UPDATES as of Term 2
I would like to congratulate everyone in our school community, students, staff and parents, for the way that you have all been so supportive of this year starting again with COVID regulations in place.
The children are sensational and have continued to adapt to the new normal. They have demonstrated great resilience and continue to thrive in their faith, education and their relationships with one another under the guidance of our beautiful staff.
Our staff have continued to work each day in the new normal too, unable to share break times altogether with colleagues, having training and meetings online and always wearing masks to ensure that they are able to come to work each day and not only keep themselves safe but more importantly the children. Their dedication to your children has been absolutely outstanding!
Parents I thank you too for your continued support of our COVID regulations and for being so understanding and flexible in this current climate, it is very much appreciated.
Parental engagement recognises the important role that parents play in developing positive attitudes towards learning and education for their children, building their motivation and confidence as learners and fostering their enjoyment of learning. As such, we wish to continue nurturing and strengthening our relationships with our parents at PCPS and ensure we are adhering to COVID regulations. Next term brings some slight changes -
Parents/caregivers are allowed on school site for outdoor drop-off/pick up of their child. Parents are still not permitted in the classrooms.
We will be welcoming parents back to share in our class liturgies/masses next term following the physical distancing and mask wearing requirements. These will be held in the hall. Please check the online calendar for dates of your child’s liturgy.
Merit Assemblies will continue as we did in Term 1 with certificates being given to children within the classroom and a photo sent home. Performance assemblies for a particular year level only will be permitted to go ahead in the hall with parents of that year level invited to come along following the physical distancing and mask wearing.
Parent/teacher meetings can occur face to face with mask wearing and psychical distancing.
P&F and Advisory Council Meetings, with mask wearing and social distancing can occur.
Masks must be worn by staff and students from Yr 3 upwards. Unless there is an exemption or exceptions.
Masks must be worn by parents indoors at assemblies/liturgies and outdoors on the school site as physical distancing is almost impossible at drop off/pick up time near the classrooms. Exemptions are to be provided to the Principal.
Masks are encouraged but not required for Kindergarten to Year 2 based on advice from the Chief Health Officer.
During the holidays please continue using the self reporting portal on our website - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/covid-updates - COVID-19 Self Reporting Form (powerappsportals.com) however your first responsibility is to notify a COVID RAT positive result via the Healthy WA website (https://www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/ratregister)
CEWA continues to provide guidelines based up official information received by the WA Government and WA Health. Should there be further changes prior to commencing next term, these will be advised to parents.
Happy Easter
I wish you all a happy and holy Easter with your family.
Keep safe and keep healthy.

ADMINISTRATION
NAPLAN
A reminder to Year 3 & 5 parents that NAPLAN is being held in Week 3 (Tuesday-Friday) of Term 2.
Testing will be held each morning at the start of the day:
Tuesday 10 May – Writing
Wednesday 11 May – Reading
Thursday 12 May – Conventions of Language
Friday 13 May – Numeracy
If you have any queries regarding NAPLAN testing, please contact your class teacher.
In the lead up to NAPLAN, it is important to ensure your child is feeling as calm and relaxed as possible about the testing. It may be helpful to remind your child of what we tell them at school - it is just another test and to try their best just like they do with all their testing in class.

PCPS NEWS
Sport
Term 1 Sports Notices
School Swimming Carnival.
Padbury Catholic School held their annual Swimming Carnival on Friday 17th March at Craigie Leisure Centre. This was the first time we have held the carnival at this venue, and we were very impressed. It was a beautiful sunny Autumn Day for the event, and it was great to be back outdoors.
The carnival was split into two separate events this year, but the children handled the changes perfectly. The Year 3 and 4 students participated in the morning and the Year 5 and 6 students had their turn after lunch.
Congratulations to Padbury (Green faction) who were the winners of the shield. This is the first time Padbury have won a carnival in several years. I’m sure the students and parents were very proud of their winning team.
The final score was 1st Padbury– 872 points
2nd MacKillop – 704 points
3rd John Paul II – 696 points
4th Mercy – 661 points
Thank you to our efficient scorers Mrs Buswell, and Mrs Airey. It is a huge effort to collate times and update scores and have it all completed before the end of the carnival. Both ladies have scored this event for the past few years and will be missed as their boys leave for high school at the end of the year. I really appreciate your help. Thanks also to the lane officials and Clint Rudd our starter for their tireless work at both ends of the pool.
Congratulations to Padbury faction and our individual Champion winners from Year 3-6.
Interschool Swimming Carnival.
Unfortunately, the Interschool Swimming carnival was cancelled this term. We are still hoping this event may take place in Term 4.
Running Club 2022
Running Club will be returning after the holidays. At this stage we are not sure what this will look like. It may be a Year level run event, or it may be a whole school event. More information will be sent out early next term to let you know how this will take place.
