Message from the Principal
Hello Tomlinson Families,
I hope you all had an amazing winter break. The holidays are such a busy time however I hope somewhere along the way you were able to rest, relax and just enjoy the time with family.
It's really hard to believe we are starting the second semester. With the opening of our new campus, the first part of the year was a whirlwind. Now we are settled in. Assessments have given us great information about the needs of our students and we are making gains in the important work of student achievement. Thank you for being a partner in this work!
I know the current health metrics are once again on your mind. Just as we were starting to feel much better about the status of the pandemic, we've been hit with the next wave. The health and well-being of our students and staff is our number one priority. We will continue to encourage wearing masks indoors. We all know that children can easily spread germs in their daily activities. We'll continue with daily cleaning and sanitizing in the building while also working with students to consistently wash their hands, use sanitizer throughout the building and give others personal space. To read an important message from Dr. Woods, our Superintendent, regarding the ongoing health concerns, please click here.
In the past year, we've missed out on some really great events. In the midst of health concerns, we continue to work toward a sense of normalcy and provide children with the many things they deserve. Our big campus fundraiser is this month and we are so excited. Our kids will participate in the Apex Fun Run! More information is below and you'll hear a lot about it in the coming weeks.
I hope you'll take a few minutes to read through the newsletter to stay abreast of all campus news. We are blazing the trail together!

New Year's Resolution: On Time Every Day
Most people set a New Year's resolution. How about setting one that positively impacts your family and helps your child have a great start to their day. Set a goal for having students at school On Time Every Day.
The first bell to enter the classroom is 7:40 a.m. and tardy bell rings at 7:45 a.m. When that bell rings, students who are not in the classroom are counted as tardy. When arriving late, students must be signed in at the office to receive a pass to class. Please send notes to school for all absences. Doctors notes can be submitted from any appointment. If you keep your child home for any reason, a parent note can be submitted. All absences, excused or unexcused, count toward attendance so please monitor your child's days out of the classroom. A day out of school is a day of missed learning.
News from our Tomlinson PTA
Exciting times! Important work! Amazing partnerships!

THANK YOU to our parents for approving PTA expenditures for the purchase of more spirit wear, gifts for the staff and most importantly, one field trip per grade level for the spring. We are thrilled that our children will get the opportunity to experience these enrichment activities this year.
ALWAYS WANTED! Great parents who want to be part of making Tomlinson the best it can be for our students and families. It's never too late to volunteer. Complete your background check!

Safety First!
- Drive slowly in the car line and through the parking lot.
- Keep vehicle stopped until children have cleared the area and have stepped to the curb.
- Watch for pedestrians in all directions.
- When walking from the lot to the building, use the crosswalks.
- Never drop children off in the parking lot and leave them to cross on their own. Moving vehicles may not see your child and children cannot be expected to walk safely alone.
- Remain in a single file car line until past the cross walk.
Always follow the directions of the adults and patrols on duty. These adults and students are there for your safety!
NISD Health Guidelines
NISD continues to follow the recommendations and guidance issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as well as local public health guidance.
- There is a continued emphasis on sanitation and cleaning of all facilities.
- Masks are highly encouraged INSIDE the building. Staff, students and visitors are encouraged to wear masks while indoors however it is a choice. As a parent, if you feel strongly about your child wearing their mask during the day, please communicate with your child's teacher.
- Don't forget those water bottles. Students come in from recess extra thirsty. Our water bottle refill stations are ready to go! Drinking fountains are not accessible at this time.
- Routine and frequent cleaning and disinfecting will continue. Frequent handwashing will also be encouraged with hand sanitizer available for students and staff.
- In the event of positive cases of COVID-19, we will follow recommended CDC guidelines for contact tracing and quarantining.
We continue to monitor local health conditions and any changes to these guidelines will be communicated.
In case you were wondering.....
Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for ALL STUDENTS this year! Breakfast is served from 7:00-7:40 a.m. daily.
Before 7:15 a.m., students not eating breakfast wait in the gym for a teacher to pick them up and take them to their grade level area. Students then sit in their hallway until 7:40 a.m.
The tardy bell rings at 7:45 a.m.
