DAVIES HIGH SCHOOL
EAGLES REPORT - SEPTEMBER 2023
Honor – Integrity – Pursuit of Excellence
GREETINGS, EAGLES!
What a great start to the school year it has been! I don’t think anything can match the excitement and energy of those first few days of school. Seeing all the returning students and new freshmen walk through the doors that first day is an amazing experience. We are without a doubt off to one of the best starts to the school year we’ve had in a long time. Huge shout out to all our staff and students for their efforts fostering this great start.
Homecoming week will kick off with Coronation Monday, September 25, at 7:00 pm in the auditorium and will conclude with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 30, from 8:30-10:30 pm. Between these days we will have a week full of activities here at Davies. If you have not had an opportunity to cheer and support our student athletes, I encourage you to find an activity this week to come support our kids.
For students needing extra help with any of their classes Davies High School has created a teacher schedule where students can meet with teachers before school from 8:05-8:40. Eagle Hour is simply a block of time each morning from 8:05-8:40 am where students can meet individually with their teacher to get academic help for anything they need. If you want specific information regarding the days and location teachers are available please click the link for that information:

Thank you and have a great school year.
Go Eagles!

9th GRADE PLD PROTECTIVE CASES
Davies High School did not have PLD plastic protective cases available at 9th Grade Orientation on August 15th. We have the cases available NOW in the Davies Library. Ms. Thiel spoke to all 9th Grade English classes about picking up a case for their PLDs. She has also sent an email to all 9th grade students.
If your 9th grade student doesn’t have a protective case on their PLD, please know that they can get one from the Library at any time. Protective cases reduce the likelihood of PLD damage.
Photo: PLD without the protective case; PLD with the protective case; Protective case that the Library is giving you.
We are always willing to help you put the protective case onto your PLD.

NURSES CORNER - Back to School Tips
As a parent there are a few tips that can easily improve your child’s learning ability. A child who is healthy will be a better learner. Some of these tips to share with your child include:
- Wash your hands. Germs are everywhere.
- Eat well and be active.
- Limit sugary drinks. Instead drink water.
- Don’t use E-cigarettes. The nicotine in e-cigarettes can harm the developing adolescent brain.
- Stay cool. Learn to recognize, prevent and treat heat-related illness.
- Plan for emergencies. Develop an emergency care plan related to medicines, adaptive equipment or assistive communication devices that may be needed at school.
- Connect with kids at school and home. This connectedness will provide a child a sense of belonging or being cared for and supported by parents, teachers and other important people.
- Get vaccinated. This will protect the child’s health.
If you have any questions please contact the school nurse in your district.

UPWARD BOUND
Upward Bound is a federally funded program through the Department of Education hosted out of North Dakota State University that provides holistic and year-round supportive services to students.
The purpose of the program is to help prepare and motivate income-eligible (determined by household size and taxable income) and/or first-generation (primary parents/guardians of the student do not have a bachelor’s degree) be successful in high school and go on to attend post-secondary education at a college or university of their choosing. Upward Bound has 3 elements: academic year services, summer program, and summer bridge after high school graduation. By participating in Upward Bound events, students are not only growing and learning, but they are also earning some money (up to $30/month during the academic year, and additional compensation for participation in the Upward Bound Summer Program).
lunch accounts
Student must have the funds available at the time of purchase either in their lunch account or in cash. Funds can be added to the student's lunch account on-line through PowerSchool or by placing cash or check in a designated envelope found in the main office, which can then be turned into a kitchen staff cashier.
2023-2024 Meal Prices:

- Secondary Lunch $2.85
- Adult Breakfast $2.50
- Adult Lunch $3.75

Families must submit a Student Fees Assistance and Benefits Application (also known as a Free-and Reduced-Price Meal Application) every year.

- Waived (canceled) fees for school related activities such as band rentals, activity fees, exam fees, and others.
- Increase funding to the district for educational programs through Title 1 funding, foundation aid, e-rate for technology grants, and others.

STUDENTS ARE ADVISED TO LEAVE VALUABLES AT HOME. Any graffiti appearing on the outside or inside of the locker is considered vandalism and will be the responsibility of the student. Gym lockers and locks are available to students enrolled in physical education classes. All items placed in the locker room during class must be placed in a locked locker to ensure items are not stolen. Students must refrain from placing personal items of value in gym lockers.
