RESPECT
This month, we’re focusing on respect, which comes in many forms: respect for life, for property, for parents, for elders, for nature, and for the beliefs and rights of others. Respect includes being courteous and polite, as well as respecting yourself by avoiding self-criticism. We can model respect for our children regarding how we speak to and treat them. Respect is not only an important character trait, but it can also be a source of real joy! Respect implies a certain appreciation, which makes us more aware of other people’s needs and feelings.
Excel: Honor Those Who Serve
Celebrate members of your community who lead through service to others. Write “Thank You” notes to someone that has helped or served your family. Consider people in your community like veterans, teachers, nurses/doctors, ministers, bus drivers, police officers, firefighters, mail
carriers, etc. Deliver these notes with a special treat.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
SPIRIT AEROSYSTEMS
Spirit Aerosystems will be at CAPS on Thursday, February 9th, discussing their summer internship program. They are inviting any students from AHS that might be interested in this opportunity. There will be two information sessions: 11:00-11:30 and 12:30-1:00. Students can attend either session. In order to attend, students need to have their own transportation, and parents will have to excuse their students from school to participate in the event.
To be eligible, students must be 16 by June 1.
Students can sign up to attend using this form: Spirit Aerosystems Internship Info Session Signup
ACT WORKSHOP @ WSU
Carolyn Devane will be offering her ACT Prep workshop for the first time at Wichita State University on Saturday, February 11th from 9:00am to 2:30pm. The early-bird price for this workshop is $60 and includes lunch. This is a great opportunity for students to get a refresher before taking the state-wide ACT exam in late February or early March. Scoring well on the ACT unlocks additional scholarship dollars for your students which can be transformational. Although there was a brief period during COVID where universities stopped requiring ACT scores, most have re-instituted ACT scores as part of how they award scholarships.
