Celebrating 28 Years of Excellence in Catholic Education
Theme for the Year
At St. Joseph Catholic School, each and every day we are training students to be missionary disciples, and learning to recognize God in our lives and in the world around us. Through FAITH, we truly believe in all God has revealed to us.
Our Mission and Vision Statements
Mission:
St. Joseph Catholic School provides students with a nurturing and prayerful learning environment committed to academic excellence, training missionary disciples to seek virtue, wisdom, and truth, in partnership with a community of active and faithful families.
Vision:
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fort Worth are committed to opening the doors so that our students can reach further than the walls that would otherwise enclose them and therefore are able to recognize and cherish the eternal and transcendental goods of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.
Motto:
Teaching the Mind...Nourishing the Soul
From the Principal
Today, our school community gathered to honor and celebrate the patron saint of our school, St. Joseph. Everyone enjoyed their party and left school with a renewed spirit for the Spring Break ahead of us. Please enjoy this prayer to St. Joseph, the Protector of Families and the Protector of the Church. May you all have a restful break and safely return to school on March 20th.
Joseph, Protector of the Church
Brave Joseph, collaborator in God’s
project for humanity, your tenderness
enfolds the newborn Church.
Just as Mary and Jesus recognize in you
the protection of the Father, so too does
the community of faith place itself under
your protection.
Strengthen us with the Spirit that filled the
Nazarene home and guide our footsteps on
the road to the Kingdom.
Accompany us in carrying out our mission.
Help us to be lights in the world so that the
family of God may spring forth from humanity
transfigured in Christ.
Grant us the strength to imitate God’s preference
for the poor and weak. Guide us in our pastoral
activities that our actions may be modeled on
the Good News.
Amen.

8th Grade Student of the Month Award
Congratulations to Madelyn Mata for being named the 8th Grade Student of the Month. Madelyn shares her many gifts from God with others. She is involved in theatre at Nolan, Kennedale Community Theatre in the Park, and in the SJCS Drama Club. She sings in our choir at SJCS, at St. Vincent de Paul and now at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Madelyn is always looking around to see what might need to be done rather than waiting to be told. She is diligent in her work even when it gets tough. She never gives up. Madelyn participates in class discussions and joyfully helps her teachers. She is very bright and has good Christian manners being so polite and kind! Thank you for serving Christ by sharing yourself with others, Madelyn. Bravo!
Moments Captured
5th grade student, Annabelle Stahl, recites Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem, “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere,” during her PSIA Poetry Interpretation rehearsal. We wish all of our competitors a good experience at the event on March 25th.
Our 6th graders had a great time during Nolan's "Viking Day" of events. They even got to see our students perform in "Fiddler on the Roof"!
Mrs. Horton's students enjoyed creating salt dough shapes of Texas while studying our wonderful state. Looks great, Knights!
Mrs. Horton's 4th grade students celebrated Texas Independence Day learning state symbols by playing BINGO!
In computer class, as Mrs. Grove's students prepare to begin a unit on coding, Mrs. Grove read a story to students that contained instructions on how to build an origami box. Students were tasked with building the origami box by oral instruction only. Afterward, they discussed how difficult it can be to complete a task only being given verbal instruction without a visual aide to follow. Nice job, Knights!
To celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday, in computer class 5th grade students learned about Dr. Seuss and then solved math equations to create Dr. Seuss Pixel Art. Well done!
NJHS Serving the Parish Community
Thank you to Mrs. Doskocil and these NJHS students for representing St. Joseph Catholic School by leading the Station of the Cross for the parish last week. God bless you all!
Altar Server Ministry
We are blessed at SJCS to have so many students willing to serve God and man in a variety of roles. Thank you, Knights!
This Week in Art
Artwork created today by our talented students!
2nd Grade: Paper Collage Flowers – using a variety of printed decorative papers, construction paper and origami sheets, scissors and glue!
Kindergarten: Four Flowers Grid – after practicing drawing four floral types, students use pencil and crayon to render four flowers
5th Grade: “American Gothic” Parody – inspired by Grant Wood’s iconic 1930 painting “American Gothic”
6th Grade: Lenten Art: Christ on the Cross – inspired by the paintings of Georges Rouault, students use marker and crayons in illustrating Christ’s Crucifixion in a modern and effective manner
3rd Grade: Zentangle Hands - using patterns and repetitions of lines and shapes to design a hand in black-and-white or in color
1st Grade: Colorful Crosses - depicting miniature symbols and motifs associated with Lent, Springtime and Easter
4th Grade: Bookshelf and Books - pencil illustration of books and other objects on a bookshelf
7th Grade: Stained Glass Designs for Lent - using ink, markers or colored pencils, students drew Lenten objects e.g. the cross, the Body and Blood of Christ, the Holy Spirit and others in an imaginary sustained glass window
Sports This Week
Our 7th/8th Grade Lady Knights ended their successful season with smiles all around! Thank you for representing SJCS so well and thank you to their coaches for devoting their time to the girls. You are all appreciated!
This week, our Knights encountered a STREAM Tower Challenge. Using paper cups and craft sticks, students constructed a tower to support a LEGO character. We discussed how using different shapes for structural support impacted the design. Students also reflected on their learning by sharing about the challenges their group encountered while working as a team. Well done!
Family STEM Day
We had our first Family STEM Day this week, thanks to Mrs. Lopez and Mrs. Doskocil for offering to be mentors. We had a lovely gathering of families. Looks like everyone enjoyed their afternoon.
Lego Club
Nothing like Legos to bring families together and children back to their imaginations, working and creating with their hands.
Greenhouse Life
5th grade celebrated Texas Independence Day by planting bluebonnets in the green house.
Robotics Program
SJCS RoboKnights
Our RoboKnights enjoyed their competition! The students learned a lot about competing and presenting under pressure. Everyone enjoyed themselves and were excited to compete. We are very proud of all of you! Thank you to our mentors, Mrs. Grove, Mr. Williams, and Mr. Murphy for their dedication to this group. We could not do this without you!
SJCS Alumni News
Congratulations to alumni, Odessa Ozuna for achieving an astonishing 2,000 points playing Basketball for Nolan Catholic High School! We are so proud of you, Odessa!
SJCS Alumni, Jenna Poquiz recently shared her God-given talents in the High School Art Show at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Nolan Catholic won the high school classroom division! Jenna’s piece was a part of that prize. She submitted the Texas Mockingbird. Absolutely beautiful!
Mr. Suarez had a special visitor at this week's art show! SJCS alumni, Sal Bosquez, stopped by to support one of his favorite teachers. Thank you for stopping by, Sal!
These SJCS alumni, Julia and Emma Horton (Faculty member, Mrs. Horton's daughters) and Cecilia and Damaris Saldivar came to support their siblings in the show! Great to have them back on campus!
