16.1 Types of Rocks

There are 3 major types of rocks. They are Sedimentary, Metamorphic, and Igneous.

Define the word rock.

Rock-A mineral matter of variable composition, consolidated or unconsolidated, assembled in masses or considerable quantities in nature, as by the action of heat or water.

16.2 Igneous Rocks

Igneous Rocks: Describe how Igneous Rocks are formed

Igneous Rocks form when magma cools and forms crystals.

16.3 Sedimentary Rocks

Sedimentary Rocks form when sediments are compacted and cemented together.

16.4 Metamorphic Rocks

Metamorphic Rocks form when an existing rock is changed by heat or pressure.
